Grand Central Publishing is expanding our fiction program and looking to hire an Executive Editor. The Executive Editor is responsible for acquiring 10-12 titles a year in commercial fiction, especially in areas of speculative fiction, horror, and interstitial fiction that is multi-genre, such as romantasy, horror/thriller, historical/thriller. The candidate should be able to identify trends in the marketplace and publish books from a wide variety of voices. The Executive Editor will acquire projects, negotiate contracts, edit manuscripts, and see the books through the entire production process.

The compensation range for this position is $100,000-120,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location - talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Acquire projects from a variety of sources including agents, seasoned authors with a proven track record, as well as new authors
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with authors and agents, as well as internal staff in Managing Editorial, Art, Publicity/Marketing, Sales, and other departments.
- Handle departmental projects/initiatives
- Represent division at tradeshows and industry events as appropriate
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Minimum of 8-10 years of trade book acquiring and editing
- Proven editorial skills in shaping commercial fiction manuscripts
- Solid knowledge of book publishing processes and functions - Editorial, Managing Editorial, Production, Design, Copyediting, Marketing, Sales, and Publicity, and how they interface
- Strong contacts in the publishing industry
- Stay informed about market trends, reader preferences, and competitor activities to inform acquisitions and publishing strategies
