Role: The Vice President of Litigation will lead MGA Entertainment's Litigation Department, overseeing the representation of the company's expansive portfolio of toys, entertainment, and other consumer products in complex legal matters worldwide. This executive role involves guiding the strategic direction of litigation efforts, addressing high-stakes and precedent-setting issues in intellectual property and entertainment law, and managing a diverse array of legal disputes. The Vice President of Litigation will drive litigation strategy, advise senior executives and business units, and ensure effective collaboration with internal teams and external counsel.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement comprehensive litigation strategies that align with the company's business objectives and risk management policies.
  • Case Management: Oversee and direct the handling of complex litigation matters, including intellectual property disputes (copyright, trademark, and patent), general commercial disputes, product liability, employment litigation, and third-party subpoenas.
  • Internal Advisory: Provide senior executives and business units with expert legal counsel on litigation risks, potential impacts, and dispute resolution strategies.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of senior in-house litigators and collaborate with lawyers across various practice groups to ensure cohesive and effective litigation efforts.
  • External Coordination: Manage relationships with outside counsel, ensuring the alignment of external legal resources with MGA Entertainment's litigation strategies and objectives.
  • Policy Development: Formulate and implement policies and procedures related to litigation management, including litigation holds, e-discovery, and early case assessment.
  • Risk Management: Analyze claims, conduct fact investigations, and assess legal risks to manage and mitigate potential litigation exposure proactively.
  • Documentation and Negotiation: Lead the negotiation and documentation of dispute resolutions, ensuring favorable outcomes for the company.
  • Court Appearances and Filings: Oversee the preparation and submission of legal filings and represent the company in court appearances, arbitrations, mediations, and depositions as necessary.

Position Requirements:

Education/Experience:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Undergraduate degree from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience as a successful litigation attorney, with extensive experience in depositions, trials, and managing complex litigation.
  • Significant experience working at a large law firm or a senior in-house position.
  • Admission to practice law in California.

  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with a track record of developing and mentoring legal professionals.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge and fluency with state and federal electronic court filing systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, make sound judgments, and drive decision-making processes.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and projects concurrently.
  • High level of motivation, drive, and work ethic, with a commitment to achieving excellence.
  • Proven expertise in developing and executing successful litigation strategies.

Salary:

$190,000.00 - $230,000.00 /year
