In today's digital world, finding genuine relationships is tougher than ever. At Hinge, we're on a mission to inspire intimate connection to create a less lonely world. We're obsessed with understanding our users' behaviors to help them find love, and our success is defined by one simple metric- setting up great dates. With tens of millions of users across the globe, we've become the most trusted way to find a relationship, for all.

About the Role

At Hinge, the Platform mission is to enable faster, safer delivery for our entire technology organization. We are seeking an experienced engineering leader to oversee and expand the teams within our platform engineering group. As the Director of Platform Engineering, you will oversee three teams: Core Platform(2) and Notifications Platform. Initially, these teams will report directly to you, with the expectation that you will hire or mentor managers to lead and grow these teams as they evolve.

Platform engineering is essential at Hinge; and the team is growing to meet the needs of the organization. We're looking for a seasoned platform leader to shape the future of platform engineering at Hinge.

Responsibilities
    • Team Leadership and Development: Mentor and grow a team of engineers and managers, fostering a collaborative, empathetic, and high-performing work environment. Focus on building a healthy team culture that aligns with the needs of users.
    • Platform Engineering Excellence: Define and continuously improve core metrics for platform engineering.
    • Ownership of Core Engineering Functions: Own observability, CI/CD, core infrastructure abstractions, and shared tooling.
    • Cross Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with product and engineering leaders to prioritize feature development and engineering investments. Work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure platform engineering initiatives are aligned with broader business goals.
    • Vision and Strategy: Develop and drive the long-term strategic vision for platform engineering, ensuring the team is well-positioned to meet future challenges and opportunities.
    • Innovation: Stay current on engineering best practices and trends. Lead the team in continuously refining strategies, processes, and tools to improve efficiency, reliability, and innovation within platform engineering.

What We're Looking For
    • 3+ years of experience managing engineering teams
    • 10+ years of experience in software development with distributed production systems at scale
    • Experience building DevOps tooling and processes, with knowledge of site reliability and product engineering
    • Ability to facilitate technical decision-making, even outside your domain expertise
    • The Hinge team programs in Go, Swift, Kotlin, and ReactJS and we build on Kafka, Postgres, Redis, Kubernetes, Istio, Terraform, AWS, Prometheus, Grafana, Vault, and CircleCI. While you don't need to be an expert in all of these, we are looking for familiarity with these or similar tools.
