We are seeking a seasoned Application Architect with a strong background in systems architecture and security to lead our team in designing robust, scalable, and secure applications. The Application Architect will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex application architectures with a strong focus on security. This role requires deep expertise in systems architecture, security protocols, and application development processes. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in leading architectural initiatives and ensuring that applications are both high-performing and secure against potential threats. Develop system architecture diagrams including system context and component architecture designs. Provide expertise regarding the integration of applications across the business. Determine specifications, then plan, design, and develop the most complex and business critical software solutions, utilizing appropriate software engineering processes-either individually or in concert with project team. Provide architectural strategy and direction for multiple diverse application functions on a variety of multi-platform systems to support the achievement of corporate business objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Develop and oversee the implementation of application architecture, ensuring scalability, performance, and security in support of short- and long-term business plans.

2. Security Integration: Implement and enforce security best practices in application design, including data encryption, secure coding standards, and compliance with relevant regulations

3. Participate in the development of company business system architecture plans and review cost and feasibility of system requests while ensuring the plan supports the strategic needs of the company.

4. Design and manage the integration of various systems and services, ensuring seamless operation and communication between them.

5. Work closely with development teams, product managers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into secure, scalable, and efficient application designs.

6. Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in systems architecture and security, and advocate for their adoption.

7. Create and maintain comprehensive architectural documentation, including design specifications, security protocols, and operational guidelines.

8. Research and maintain knowledge in emerging technologies and possible application to the business. Viewed as a technical expert and critical technical resource.

9. Typically lead complex projects and participate in larger initiatives. Solve complex technical and operational problems.

10. Act as a resource for teammates with less experience. May oversee workflow and provide coaching and training for a small team.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree and eight years of experience in development or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
2. In-depth knowledge in information systems and ability to identify, apply, and implement best practices.
3. Understanding of multiple disciplines/processes related to the position.
4. Experience applying and utilizing enterprise architecture standards.
5. Understanding of key business processes and competitive strategies related to the IT function.
6. Ability to plan and manage projects.
7. Ability to solve complex problems by applying best practices.
8. Ability to provide direction and mentor less experienced teammates.
9. Advanced communications skills, including ability to interpret and convey complex, difficult, or sensitive information.
10. In an Agile environment: Knowledge of Agile development and release practices. Experience supporting a team with application architecture in an Agile environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree and ten years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

2. Knowledge of one or more Microsoft technologies such as: .NET (e.g., VB .Net, C#, or C++, ASP.Net) and database platforms such as SQL Server and proficiency in PL/SQL.

3. Scripting experience strongly preferred (PowerShell, Python, etc.)

4. Experience designing, implementing, and consuming REST and SOAP services.

5. Strong understanding of security controls and compliance (NIST, SOC2, NYDFS)

6. Solid working knowledge of UML and design tools.

7. Banking or financial services experience.

8. One or more relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, TOGAF, or AWS Certified Solutions Architect are a plus.

Able to work all hours scheduled, including overtime as directed by manager/supervisor and required by business need.
