Unit ACU

- Advanced Care Unit (Stepdown) (Cost Center 23)

# of beds 30-Beds - All private rooms Ratios 1 to 4 Required Certifications BLS, ACLS, NIHSS are all required Common diagnoses/Types of patients This unit is their designated Stroke, Trauma, & Vascular unit: Fempops, Carotids, DKA, AKA, post caths w/ TR Bands & femoral access. They can have anywhere from 4-5 fresh carotids on the unit at a time. They do not pull sheaths on this unit. Experience or 'Must have' skills Must have stepdown acuity experience with the types of patients on this unit & be able to read strips.

Are RNs required to titrate drips? Yes

Common titratable &/or set rate drips Cardizem is titrated per Dr's orders, Insulin, & Heparin

Charge Nurse/House Supervisor Charge Nurse 24/7 -

depending on the needs of the unit they may

take a patient assignment. Night Charge Nurse always takes a patient assignment. Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios 3 PCT's per shift with ratios 1:10

RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, etc.) Cpap, Bipap, High Flow (goal is to have stable vents in the future)

Is there tele on this unit? Monitor techs? RNs read strips? They do have monitor techs but the RN's have to read, verify, & sign-off on strips Shifts & Scheduling 0; 1 Self-scheduling & block scheduling are allowed as long as the needs of the unit are met; however, block scheduling is not guaranteed. Weekend Requirement EOW: Weekend shifts for Nights are Fri/Sat/Sun; Days are Sat/Sun

Holiday Requirement Perm staff have a Holiday rotation schedule. If they can get by without travelers working weekends they will; however, if the needs of the unit require travelers to work weekends, this would be the expectation.

Is there a call or standby requirement? Very rare Floating Requirement Travelers are the 1st to float. Would float "down" to MedSurg/Tele or

"up" to ICU but only for ACU status patients. Would not float to CVICU but could float to CV Stepdown. Scrub Color/Dress code Royal Blue - Scrub jackets are not required; however, if they wear a jacket it must be an actual scrub jacket. No hoodies or sweat-jackets.

Unit/Department specific orientation 1st day with HR, clinical educator, & shadow for the rest of day on unit.
