Our Human Services Program dates back to 1989 and has continuously evolved to meet the unique needs of the market we serve.

Responsibilities:Serve as the strategic, operational, and motivational leader of Underwriting in support of delivering profitable growth and excellent community, employee, and customer relations.

Product Management Leadership

Establish, review, monitor and update underwriting appetite and guidelines to ensure quality risk selection and pricing.

Develop proprietary coverage forms and endorsements and work closely with regulatory and legal to ensure program needs are met.

Approve proprietary rates and work with Enterprise Product Support Services to ensure timely filing and programming.

Ensure applications and application supplements are sufficient to determine proper selection and pricing.

Manage and monitor overall pricing practices and targets.

Approve marketing materials.

Delegate underwriting authority and monitor compliance.

Continually work with legal, actuarial, and claims to maintain familiarity with current issues and trends that impact our business.

Function as BHS’s underwriting contact for external auditors.

Work with Corporate Ceded Reinsurance team to ensure appropriate reinsurance terms and coverage.

Underwriting Management

Provide leadership and direction on business opportunities, pricing, retention analysis, loss control needs, and account stewardship.

Conduct audits for quality control and conduct training where needed.

Prepare, assign and conduct performance appraisals.

Establish key metrics, which are to be monitored, managed and reported regularly.

Establish development plans for individual team members.

Coordinate sales and marketing efforts with Marketing Department.

Conduct SOX testing and documentation.

Other BHS Management Functions

Member of IT Governance Committee.

Prepare information for / participate in quarterly earnings calls with WRBC.

Participate in regular BHS Senior Management meetings.

Participate in Claims Committee Meetings.

Additional Marketing-Related Functions

Visit and develop rapport with key existing and prospective agents, as appropriate.

Participate in the Annual Producers Advisory Meeting.

May perform other functions as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 10 years multi-line underwriting and marketing experience.

Significant knowledge of ISO rating practices and coverage forms.

Strong decision-making skills.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to supervise and motivate staff and experience and successful history of doing the same.

Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

Understanding of trending, development, and pricing and experience partnering with actuarial.

Excellent PC skills and a working knowledge of Windows environment.

Must maintain a valid driver’s license and carry vehicle insurance coverage.

Education

Four-year college degree or equivalent relevant experience. (CPCU, CIC, ARM etc. a plus)
