With our combined resources, CommonSpirit is committed to building healthy communities advocating for those who are poor and vulnerable and innovating how and where healing can happen both inside our hospitals and out in the community.ResponsibilitiesMust be located in the Glendale, CA area and will travel within the Region.The Region Director Risk Management and Loss Prevention is responsible for orchestrating the successful completion of standardized risk management and loss prevention activities within a designated Region in collaboration with Claim Operations, Regional leadership, and market/local risk management professionals. Within an established framework, the Director develops, implements and assesses the effectiveness of Region-wide programs designed to reduce casualty and property losses. These programs are aligned with CommonSpirit Health’s strategic plan and encompass the entire care continuum, Joint Operating Agreements, and other insured locations within the Region. The position has matrixed accountability for market/local professionals who perform risk management functions.Essential Key Job ResponsibilitiesActs as primary liaison with Regional and Market Executives relative to appropriate risk management resourcing, identification of potential high-risk exposures, analysis of data for loss prevention opportunities, and acting as a risk-related subject matter expert.Ensures that risk management activities for claims are completed including timely claim identification and reporting, on-site claim investigation/data gathering, claim professionals and defense counsel are supported throughout the claim management process, and there is local/market leader concurrence on claim resolution strategy. Completes those activities for high exposure claims and as needed.Partners with appropriate Regional leaders to develop, implement, and assess the effectiveness of system loss prevention programs designed to reduce casualty and property losses (e.g. People Operations leaders for workers’ compensation and employment practices liability exposures).Participates with system peers to share knowledge, develop, implement and evaluate national risk management and loss prevention programs, and ensure standardization in application.Assists with hiring, orienting, training, mentoring and evaluating market/local risk management professionals who have a matrixed accountability to the Director.Create and communicate Region-wide risk management and loss reduction policies for endorsement and operationalization at the Region, market or local level. Participate in reviewing or creating other Region-wide policies/procedures/standards/guidelines etc. as a risk management subject matter expert.QualificationsRequired Education and ExperienceBachelor’s Degree in a healthcare related fieldMinimum of ten (10) years’ experience in Healthcare Risk ManagementMinimum of five (5) years in a leadership roleRequired Licensure and CertificationCertified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) preferredRequired Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and TrainingAbility to:Analyze and communicate complex loss trends data to a broad audienceImplement the strategic plan while paying attention to detailsDemonstrate good judgementCommunicate effectively, with ease, to all levels of the organizationSuperior written and oral communication skillsExcellent problem solverStrong working knowledge of loss prevention, quality processes and managing complex projects to success.Remain calm, composed and professional when involved in emotionally charged situationsHigh degree of comfort in utilizing technological job aids
