This rich tapestry of culture and ideas is sustained by our City's commitment to heighten the quality of life for the diverse population of San Franciscans and residents of the greater Bay Area.Application Opening : December 11, 2023Extended Application Filing Deadline : January 26, 2024Under general administrative direction, manages, and directs the activities of professional and technical engineering personnel performing highly technical and administrative functions in connection with the design, construction, operation and maintenance of projects and systems.The essential functions of the class may include:Directing, supervising, and coordinating the design of complex engineering projects.Conducting interviews, selecting, training, monitoring, and evaluating departmental staff and consultants.Planning, organizing, and directing the administration and management of contracts.Overseeing and reviewing the preparation of complex construction contracts and documents.Establishing and implementing departmental policies, procedures, and administrative directives.Managing projects and coordinating activities between units and other groups.Consulting with technical staff and representing the City.Writing, reviewing, and approving documents.Supervising the review of shop drawings by contractors and field inspection staff.Performing other related duties as assigned.How to qualify
1. Seven (7) years verifiable professional engineering work experience of which four (4) years must be as a licensed professional engineer in the specialty you are applying for. Two (2) of the seven (7) years must be equivalent to the City and County of San Francisco class 5241 Engineer.AND2. Possession of a current Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California with a License Type as
Mechanical Engineering.Notes:Some positions may require possession of a certificate issued by the International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO) or an equivalent certifying body.Some positions may require additional special engineering licensing and/or work experience in areas such as Construction Management, Structural Design, Corrosion, Fire Protection, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental, or Instrumentation and Control Systems.Most positions require a valid California Driver's License.Substitutions for Engineering Specialties:A Master's Degree in Engineering may substitute for 1 (one) year of work experience.A PhD in Engineering may substitute for 2 (two) years of work experience.This note applies to candidates applying from out of California:1. Candidates licensed in other states who meet the minimum requirements of this announcement may file for this examination and will be placed under waiver on the resulting eligible list until the required California license is presented.Working Conditions : Some positions may require specific lifting up to 50 pounds; climbing ladders; working in high places and confined spaces; exposure to various weather conditions; bending, sitting, and walking for extended periods over uneven surfaces.Verification : Applicants may be required to submit verification of qualifying education and experience at any point in the application process.Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of a completed City and County of San Francisco application.SELECTION PROCEDURESAfter application submission, candidates deemed qualified must complete all subsequent steps to advance in this selection process.Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire:
