The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22,000 students and 60+ different languages are spoken in the homes of our students. KCKPS is home to Sumner Academy, the #6 highest rated High School in the Nation and #1 High School in Kansas according to the US News rankings.
With Head Start/preschools, 28 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 college and career academies/high schools, we are the fifth largest district in the state of Kansas and our student population is approximately 56% Hispanic, 24% African American, 9% White, and 6% Asian. To serve our students, the district employs approximately 4,000 employees including more than 1,800 teachers.
Job Goal:
The Coordinator will be responsible for all day-to-day operations, including site management and coordination of site personnel, and service providers. The Coordinator Director will oversee the entire program and make sure that activities meet the goals and objective of the District.
Essential Functions:Liaison between Kidzone Program personnel and school administrationMeet weekly with onsite KidZone staff with program updatesCoordinating activities with program providers, including enrollment, program needs evaluations, staffing, field trips, etc.Contacting families to verify enrollment information, disciplinary issues, and other needed requirements.Opening and closing the Kidzone building sites, unless indicated otherwise by school administrators.Recruiting and enrolling families in the Kidzone programAttend monthly site program staff meetingsRecruiting staff for Kidzone programMust provide ongoing orientation for all staffMaintain progress and evaluate the Kidzone Program annuallyMaintain ongoing community partnerships per grant requirementsSubmit annual evaluation reports to KSDE as required by the grantCompleting and maintaining all necessary paperwork, enrollment packets, attendance records, meal service, weekly reports, etc.Maintaining active files on all participants in the program. Files should include; scheduled parental permission forms and emergency information.Maintaining active files on all staff members, including substitute staff, and that are cleared through the program (background checks)Maintain files that should include record of education/experience, date of employment, record of scheduled hours, record of in-service training, health certificate, and work references.Maintain certifications and training hours per Kansas Department of Health and Environment Regulations.Support and respond to Student Services parent callsOther duties as assigned by the Coordinator of the program.Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in education or related Social Services Field (preferred)Health Department and Childcare licensing experience.Ability to monitor progress of KidZone grants through program activities.Strong communication skills, both written and oral.Manage and supervise part-time staff at Kidzone sites.Ability to interact in a positive manner with families, students, staff and community partnersBudget and accounting experience to manage payments for childcare fees.Strong organizational skills.
COMMUNICATION / ORGANIZATION:
Maintains communication with school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students. Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties. Performs other related work as required.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.
