The Department of Anesthesiology is committed todelivering the best possible anesthetic and critical care to our patients, toadvancing research and quality improvement in anesthesiology and perioperativemedicine and training the next generation of anesthesiologists through ourresidency and fellowship programs along with medical student teaching.
Chief Purpose of this position:
We are seeking candidates for the role of Anesthesiologists to provide care to patients at VCU Health as assigned by the Department Chair or Chair's delegate. This includespreanesthetic evaluation, intraoperative anesthetic care, postoperative rounds,resuscitation and intensive care, therapeutic/diagnostic nerve blocks, andconsultation in cases of chronic pain. This position will also direct the activities of nurseanesthetists as assigned by Chair or Chair's delegate.
Position Responsibilities:Teaching : Provides "bedside" clinical teaching of residents, medical students, student nurse anesthetists and others. Participates in the didactic teaching programs of the Department at this institution and attends conferences, rounds, and staff meetings as required by ChairResearch : May pursue clinical or laboratory research and other scholarly interests independently but within the guidelines of the Institution and Department. Participate in clinical trials depending upon interest and area of specializationService : May serve on various departmental, School of Medicine, University or VCU Health System committees as requested by Chair or determined via individual interests. The Department stresses the importance of being a good citizen of the institution and fosters community service at all levelsClinical : Provide clinical anesthesiology care to patients as directed by Department Chair or delegate including main Operating Rooms (ORs) and ambulatory areas. May supervise and direct Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) as appropriate. Direct anesthesia care in other critical care areas of the medical center as appropriateRequired Qualifications:
MD or DO degreeABA board eligible/certified in Anesthesiology and/or certified/eligible for Critical Care CertificationEligible for unrestricted medical licensure in VirginiaGood communication, clinical and teaching skillsDemonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
