JMT is seeking a national practice leader for its growing Rail and Transit Practice. Current JMT rail and transit clients include major east coast metropolitan transit authorities, state transportation agencies, county and regional transit agencies, and Amtrak. We provide multidisciplinary services to these clients spanning planning, design, and program/construction management phases. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and leading the strategy to accelerate our growth in this market, client development and satisfaction, and collaboration with JMT executive leadership, technical practice leaders, and regional/office leaders to drive growth and success for rail and transit clients, projects, and our staff across JMT’s footprint.
The Practice Leader must be a strong leader, able to inspire, motivate and build teams, and communicate effectively.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Update/expand our Strategic Plan for the Rail and Transit Market
Lead and collaborate in the development of large-scale and strategic opportunity targets
Complete competitor and business analyses and market research to improve/grow the overall portfolio depth and quality
Monitor and support pursuit opportunities and lead major capture efforts
Manage key relationships with major internal/external clients
Make recommendations on market expansion opportunities in growing geographic markets, and with service line expansion (ex. Class I and other freight railroads)
Be proposed as Principal-in-Charge / Contract Manager for major programs as appropriate
Closely support recruiting efforts across JMT’s footprint to support and accelerate market growth
Directly support the development and hiring of key staff members to expand the practice
Stay active and strive for leadership positions in related industry groups
Providing guidance and oversight of major marketing campaigns in geographical regions
Collaborate with Learning and Development to develop key skills to support staff development in the practice
Support risk management, pricing, and proposal review processes
Strengthen and encourage cross discipline collaboration to optimize cross-selling opportunities
Identify the opportunity and need for interoffice work-sharing. Promote work-sharing to improve work quality and company financials
Interface with regional/office leaders to support operational performance across practices and regions/offices
Identify issues/barriers to growth and make recommendations to resolve
Oversee execution of contracts to ensure quality, profitability, and superior client satisfaction
Troubleshoot and proactively monitor any required corrective actions to verify client satisfaction on necessary projects
Provide oversight to ensure quality management systems and safety protocols are rigidly followed
Develop growth opportunities for Business Leaders and Technical Leaders within the practice

Required SkillsRequired Experience
Bachelor’s Degree with 15+ years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including leadership experience.
Licensed Professional Engineer or Registered Architect
Progressive experience in the Rail and Transit planning/design/construction market sector including successful leadership of multi-disciplinary design projects and programs, ideally for major metropolitan transit agencies
Thorough understanding of Rail and Transit design and construction processes, regulatory requirements, and business practices
Strong client and industry relationships
Demonstrated success in meeting or exceeding business growth goals and/or business development metrics
Valid Driver’s License
Preferred Experience
Experience with Federal procurement, design and construction
Experience with Design-Build and other alternative delivery methods
Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. Occasional visits to field (construction) locations are required. Field work may require climbing, walking, and standing at a construction site and may be outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 50 lbs.) may be required. Travel to JMT locations and project sites required as needed.
