Primary Purpose:
Ensure building and grounds are cleaned by using routine procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.
Qualifications:Education/Certification
High School Diploma, GED or 3-4 years of experience required

Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety proceduresAptitude for successful completion of tasksDemonstrated ability to coordinate personnel to accomplish tasksBroad knowledge of school housekeepingAbility to perform minor plumbing and electrical repairsAbility to operate and train in cleaning equipment and the proper use of cleaning suppliesAbility to speak and understand English and Spanish, preferred
Experience
Six months custodial services experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:Cleaning and Maintaining FacilitiesWork cooperatively with principals and supervisors to ensure a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations.Daily coordinate and plan with the Custodian Night Lead to determine building needs.Ensure building perimeter is free of debris; stock and restore restroom supplies as needed; and perform upkeep and minor plumbing and carpentry repairs.Remove trash from breakfast served in classrooms.During lunch, remove trash and sweep floors in cafeteria.After lunch, clean cafeteria and remove all trash.
Inspection and RepairPerform first level of minor maintenance repairs, including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.Inspect buildings for: graffiti; broken/cracked windows; damaged exterior doors; cracked/loose bricks; plugged down spouts; and foundation concerns. Report, repair, and/or clean as appropriate.Inspect building interior and gym for damaged, missing, or broken: hardware, partitions, ceiling tiles, structural ceiling, floor, wall tile, entrance doors, carpet or floor tile, cabinet hinges, boards, and closet doors. Report, repair, and/or clean as appropriate.Conduct weekly checks of roof, remove debris and trash, report damages; and determine the difference between roof and condensation leaks by removing ceiling tiles, when possible.Service the building heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system by: checking disconnects, resetting circuit breakers, checking and adjusting thermostats, and cleaning air supply and return grill.Service the building electrical system by: changing ballasts, changing light bulbs and emergency exit lights, replacing receptacle covers, resetting circuit breakers and replacing and repairing guards over light fixtures.Service the building plumbing system by: installing valve kits, turning off water to appliances and fixtures, replacing washers in faucets, unclogging restroom fixtures, and lighting pilots on appliances and water heaters.Assist in maintaining supply and equipment inventory and request supplies as needed.
OtherDemonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible; and serve as a role model for staff, students, and public.Respond in timely manner when contacted regarding urgent situations or emergencies (during or outside of normal business hours).Perform other duties as assigned.
SafetyFollow established safety procedures and techniques to perform duties, including lifting, and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
