The Vice President of Payer Contracting & Managed Care is responsible for leading the strategy, negotiation, and execution of managed care contracts. This role oversees the contracting team and ensures that all payer agreements align with the organization’s financial goals. The VP will develop strong relationships with payers, manage contract portfolios, and identify opportunities for revenue improvement, all while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of managed care contracting professionals.

Formulate and execute a managed care strategy that aligns with the organization’s long-term vision.

Negotiate and manage a portfolio of new and existing payer contracts.

Design processes and protocols to ensure smooth contract implementation.

Conduct market rate analysis to ensure contract rates are competitive.

Build and maintain positive relationships with payers, resolving any issues that arise.

Develop and implement strategic plans to optimize payer contracts and drive revenue growth.

Analyze financial impacts of contracts and propose strategies for improvement.

Oversee the creation of data analytics tools to monitor contract performance and market trends.

Ensure compliance with relevant payer regulations and industry standards.

Administer out-of-network arbitration and dispute resolution processes to support long-term organizational goals.

Promote continuous process improvement across all managed care contracting functions.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in healthcare or business administration preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 10+ years in payer contracting, revenue cycle management, or a related healthcare function.

Proven track record of successfully negotiating payer contracts with innovative strategies.

Experience working in payer contracting and contract modeling within a provider, hospital, or health system setting.

Skills:

Strong financial analysis and negotiation skills.

In-depth knowledge of the managed care regulatory environment.

Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities, capable of working with a wide range of stakeholders.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
