The Department of Natural Sciences at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) invites applications for a Research Program Manager. The position is grant-funded, part-time, exempt, and contractual with limited benefits.
The Research Program Manager will be involved in the management of a research program at UMES on the effects of cover crops on soil carbon sequestration and their use as bioenergy feedstocks. The Research Program Manager will be tasked with managing research materials, reporting, ordering and reconciliation, and project meeting organization and implementation; data tracking and reporting, communications to all partner organizations; and website development and maintenance. In addition, the candidate should be able to support research activities, including soil and plant sample processing and inventory.
ResponsibilitiesMaintain project data management programs for group use.Develop reports to funding agency to maintain compliance.Aid in program communication, including organizing regular meetings, communicating with program partners, and coordinating quarterly meetings.Develop and maintain project website.Support project activities as needed, which may involve soil and plant sample processing and analysis.Travel to field meetings and project meetings.Must be able to work outdoors, in hot and buggy conditions.Performs other related duties as assigned.Classification19-0000 Life, Physical, and Social Science Occupations
Required Qualifications
M.S. in chemistry, soil science, environmental science, plant science, or related field.Knowledge of database management (Excel, Google Docs, etc.)Skill in the use of personal computers and software packages in the data collection, analysis, and presentation processes (e.g. Excel and R)Familiarity with research topics in plant and soil science, soil carbon sequestration.Valid Maryland Non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license.Preferred Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Ability to develop and maintain webpages.Ability to work independently.Must have strong organizational and communication skills.
