SUMMARY:

The Polysomnographic Trainee works under the general supervision of the Manager of Cardiopulmonary Services and the Coordinator of the Sleep Improvement Center. Works under the direct supervision of a RPSGT. Develops competency in and performs the basics of polysomnographic testing and associated interventions; i.e., polysomnography, EEG, oximetry and electromy graphics to assist in the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of sleep and sleep related disorders. Supports Core Values and Mission of the Sponsors. Respects and maintains confidentiality.

Required Education – High School Diploma plus 6 months of direct patient care experience or 1 year of post-secondary education. OR Current enrollment in an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis in polysomnography.

Required Certification –BCLS certifications.

Experience - Previous experience in health related field preferred.

Skills - Effective written communication skills. Previous patient care and technical background preferred

Working Conditions:

Physical Demands - Sits 75% of the shift, stands and walks 25%. Corrected vision is necessary to focus on monitoring and recording devices. Finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination needed to operate equipment.

Working Conditions - While doing a sleep study, must remain in the Sleep Lab the entire time. May be exposed to infections, contagious diseases, and the risk of bloodborne diseases. Must respond to any emergency s
