The Division of Cardiology in the Department of Medicine, Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio invites applications for faculty openings that will support current division needs within the areas of non-invasive cardiology as well as advanced imaging. A wide range of clinical interests in cardiology can be accommodated.
The Division of Cardiology at UT Health San Antonio offers the incoming candidates an opportunity to join a robust practice with strong market share and excellent recognition within the region. The division employs over 25 faculty and has active non-invasive (6 fellows per year) and interventional fellowship (2 fellows per year) programs.

The division’s services offering include TAVR, an active MitraClip program and a Watchman program. Additional services provided include peripheral and coronary interventions (including advanced CTO management, PERT, and ECMO), clinical electrophysiology, inpatient and outpatient consults, echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography (including 4D) and stress testing. In collaboration with the Department of Radiology, the division provides structural and functional cardiac MRI services as well as interpretive services (echocardiography, electrocardiography, Holter, Event Monitor and stress testing) for inpatients and outpatients across numerous facilities. The division collaborates with the heart failure/heart transplant physicians at Methodist Hospital to provide heart failure services.
(The only services that the division doesn’t currently provide are LVAD and transplant.)
Viability of Recruitment: The division is hiring due to growth throughout the health care enterprise and will be adding faculty in order to meet current demand as well as provide coverage at Multi Specialty Research Hospital which is a brand-new facility that will open in November 2024.
Minimum Requirement: Medical Doctorate (M.D.), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) and Cardiology-boarded, preferable Non-Invasive-trained to contribute to our growing clinical practice, research activities and education.
Practice Structure: The incoming cardiologists will have the ability to practice full scope/comprehensive cardiology with the ability to have additional emphasis in nearly any area of interest. Current needs exist for general cardiology, echocardiography (including structural procedure focused) and sports medicine among others.
Academic responsibilities include attending to the board of regents’ rules, policy/procedures.

UT Health San Antonio offers an excellent benefits package for its employees. Employees who work at least 20 hours a week, with an appointment of at least 4.5 months, are eligible for benefits.
Medical - UT SELECT Medical insurance is offered free for employees and administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. Family members can be added to the plan through payroll deduction. TRS is a defined benefit retirement plan which UT Health matches employee contributions. ORP is for eligible faculty staff employees. Voluntary retirement programs are also available to invest before- or after-tax dollars with the choice of five quality retirement plan providers.
Time Off- A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:
Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.
Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.
Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each fiscal year.
FSAs- Employees can enroll in flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to set aside money from earnings before taxes for qualifying dependent day care expenses or out-of-pocket health care expenses.
