Major Responsibilities :Performs intermediate professional work locating, identifying and serving speech/language impaired students; preparing and maintaining student and program records; preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Special Education.
Qualification RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable an individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Licensed Minnesota Speech Language Pathologist ("Clinician")Experience working in a multi cultural setting and with diverse groups of people preferred.Alternatives to the qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable will also be considered.Valid driver's license in the State of Minnesota.Essential Functions
Conducts the completion of due process paperwork, communication, testing and review; develops and implements Individual Educational Plans (IEP); assesses student progress on IEP goals; documents and charts progress student progress; coordinates and leads IEP meetings.Consults with teachers, parents, administration, etc.Participates and leads various meetings and groups regarding student IEP progress, due process, student progress, community education, workshops, etc.Creates and maintains various files electronically and hard copy formats.Remediates speech and language disabilities in students through therapy for language, fluency and voice.Completes all necessary due process paperwork; develops interventions; meets with educational team and parents; develops and writes assessment plans; conducts testing; determines eligibility; completes progress reports and periodic reviews.Conducts communication with parents, students and staff via email, phone and letters.Attends and leads various meetings, conferences and training.
Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of speech and language diagnosis and therapy; thorough knowledge of casework methods and procedures; thorough knowledge of local, state and federal resources, programs, procedures, laws, rules and regulations; ability to conduct interviews, assessments and diagnosis effectively and analyze needs and problems objectively; ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, staff, administration and the general public.
Physical RequirementsThis work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching with hands and arms and pushing or pulling and occasionally requires standing, climbing or balancing, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a very quiet location (e.g. park trail, storage or file room).
