Position Summary
The Department of Surgery at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC is seeking applications for a full-time Board Certified/Eligible General Surgeon to help grow our Hillsborough Campus. The candidate will be a member of a newly created Section of General Surgery within the Division of Acute Care and Trauma Surgery. The primary responsibility of this position will be to oversee the strategic growth and operational management of programs at Hillsborough from across the 9 Divisions in the Department of Surgery that are appropriate for growth at this location.
UNC Health Care Hillsborough is a relatively new community hospital which is an extension of UNC Medical Center. The 68 acute care bed facility combines a community hospital culture with the innovative procedures (including robotic surgery) and care for which the UNC Medical Center is known. The campus includes a medical office building with clinical space and procedure rooms in addition to the acute care hospital. The Emergency Room volume has grown over the last few years and there will be expanded operating room capacity over the next year which will bring the operating rooms to a total of eight. The DOS is keenly interested to grow our presence at Hillsborough Hospital, including both emergent and elective procedures, as we expand our reach and programs and is seeking a dynamic leader to help build this program.
This is an Open Rank, Open Track, 0.5 to 1.0 FTE Academic appointment that will be offered commensurate with the candidate's experience. Qualified applicants should have an interest in and experience with a broad array of general surgical procedures and a keen interest in the areas of patient care and medical education. Responsibilities of this position include (1) working with the DOS Department Chair, Associate Chair for Administration, and Division Chiefs to develop and implement a strategic vision and plan for growth of DOS at Hillsborough campus; (2) day-to-day oversight and management of DOS staff, trainees and faculty at Hillsborough Hospital, including call coverage, OR block time, clinics in the attached medical office building; (3) close collaboration and open communication with the Associate CMO for Hillsborough Campus, Vice President for Hillsborough Campus, and DOS leadership including the Executive Vice Chair for Clinical Operations and the relevant Division Chiefs.
Candidates will be expected to have demonstrated excellence in the traditional academic missions: clinical practice, education, and/or research, as evidenced by experience, outcomes, and references. The candidate must have strong inter-personal and leadership skills, including the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment, promote teamwork and learning, and lead by example. Experience building clinical programs and an interest in Acute Care General Surgery is preferred.
