Mission or Goal of Unit:
The mission of the Department of Neurology at VCU is to provide the best patient-centered neurological care in a curious and academically rich environment while supporting the career development and engagement of all team members including faculty, APPs, staff and learners. With more than 50 faculty members, the rapidly growing and dynamic department provides a high level of expertise for the full breadth of neurological conditions affecting adults and children.
Chief Purpose of this position:
The Department of Neurology is seeking a full-time clinical faculty member serve as the Neurohospitalist Director. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Neurology, the Director will be responsible for establishing and leading a Neurohospitalist Service that will provide inpatient neurology and neurology consultation services throughout the health system, including the VCU Hospital in Richmond, and teleconsultation services to regional hospitals in South Hill and Tappahannock and an Emergency Room in New Kent.
Position Responsibilities:
1. ClinicalPrimary clinical responsibilities include care of patients in the inpatient setting.
2. TeachingThe faculty member will teach medical students, neurology fellows and critical care fellows from other services (e.g., Anesthesiology).
3. ResearchThe Department of Neurology is engaged in clinical and translation research projects. The faculty member will be expected to participate in, and when appropriate lead, clinical research and clinical trials.
4. ServiceFaculty member will serve on departmental, School of Medicine, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g. reviewer, conference organizer, etc.
Required Qualifications:Strategic thinker with strong leadership and interpersonal skillsAbility to listen and respond to a broad range of perspectivesMD/DO with residency training at an accredited institutionEligibility for licensure in VirginiaBC/BE in NeurologyAt least 3-5 years of experience as a NeurohospitalistUnderstanding of, and appreciation for, the three missions of research, education, and clinical care as it applies to inpatient and acute neurological care in the context of academic medicineStrategic orientation that looks to collect, analyze, and act on relevant data to make thoughtful and equitable decisions for immediate action and long-term plans in clinical operations and quality initiativesDemonstrated experience fostering a diverse and inclusive faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCUPreferred Qualifications:
