As a Certified First Assistant (CFA), you will play a crucial role in surgical procedures by providing direct assistance to surgeons. You will work closely with the surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes, assist in surgical procedures, and maintain a sterile environment in the operating room.Key Responsibilities:Preoperative Preparation:Assist in preparing the operating room (OR) for surgical procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are sterile and readily available.Position and prepare patients for surgery, ensuring proper draping and positioning according to the surgical plan.Surgical Assistance:Anticipate surgeon's needs during procedures, passing instruments, sutures, and supplies efficiently and accurately.Hold retractors, suction blood and fluids, and manipulate tissues as directed by the surgeon to provide optimal visualization and access.Wound Closure and Dressing Application:Assist in wound closure, applying sutures or staples under the direction of the surgeon.Apply sterile dressings and bandages as needed to promote wound healing and prevent infection.Intraoperative Patient Care:Monitor patients' vital signs and physiological responses during surgery, alerting the surgical team to any changes or concerns.Assist with hemostasis techniques to control bleeding and maintain a clear surgical field.Safety and Infection Control:Adhere to strict aseptic techniques and infection control protocols to minimize the risk of surgical site infections.Maintain a sterile environment in the OR, including proper handling and disposal of surgical instruments and supplies.Communication and Collaboration:Communicate effectively with the surgical team, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and surgical technologists, to ensure coordinated patient care.Provide accurate documentation of surgical procedures, instrument counts, and patient care activities.Postoperative Support:Assist in transferring patients to post-anesthesia care units (PACUs) or recovery rooms, ensuring patient comfort and safety during transport.Provide postoperative care instructions and education to patients and family members as directed by the surgical team.Continuing Education and Professional Development:Stay current with advancements in surgical techniques, instrumentation, and perioperative practices through continuing education and professional development opportunities.Maintain certification and licensure requirements, adhering to professional standards and ethical guidelines.
