Overview

The Cancer Registrar is responsible for complete and accurate abstracting of cancer data in accordance with the American College of Surgeons requirements and the Florida Cancer Data system. The incumbent identifies applicable cases for inclusion in the registry (case- finding), abstract and lifetime follow-up of cancer cases diagnosed and/or treated at UF Health Flagler Hospital. This position also assists with various department activities including but not limited to weekly tumor conferences, Cancer Committee meetings, CoC preparation for accreditation and survey, National Cancer Data Base call for data and FCDS reporting.

Responsibilities

Accurately abstracts and codes clinical data using the standards set forth by the Commission on Cancer of theAmerican College of Surgeons and the Florida Cancer Data System.Performs monthly case finding on a daily basis.Performs and maintains follow-up information on all living and deceased patients as required.Assists with Tumor Board activities as needed.Assures that appropriate staging is done on all applicable positive pathology reports.Assists with the submission of cancer data to required agencies.Maintains the confidentiality and security of patient information in the tumor registry data base.Assists with other cancer registry activities as needed such as consolidation of treatment information, yearly case ascertainment and the NCDB and annual call for data.All other duties as assigned by department.Qualifications

Education / Training

High School Diploma/Equivalent requiredAssociates Degree in a health related field preferredExperience Requirements

2-years Cancer/Tumor Registry experience required.Experience with Electronic Registry System preferred.Knowledge of Commission on Cancer (CoC) cancer program standards for accreditation preferred.Certificates/Licenses/Registration

CTR (Certified Tumor Registrar) Certification RequiredFlorida Abstractor Code - Required within 60 daysPreferences

Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) preferred.Registered Health Information Technicians (RHIT) preferred
