The speech/language pathologist is responsible for assessment, treatment, planning, implementation, education, communication, and demonstration of techniques addressing voice, swallowing and upper airway disorders, as well as the prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, and management of disorders in language, social communication, vocalization, and cognition in children and adults. A speech / language pathologist is also important for providing aural rehabilitation for children and adults with hearing loss, as well as augmenting and providing alternative communication options for disorders of severe expressive or language comprehension (such as autism spectrum disorder or progressive neurological disorders).

Provide comprehensive initial and ongoing assessments for each indicated patient and implement a treatment plan tailored to the disorder using a goal planning system. Evaluate and diagnose speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults including but not limited to head and neck cancer patients (including laryngectomy patients), individuals with syndromic or spectral disorders, individuals with hearing loss, and individuals with vocal disorders). The counseling of head and neck cancer patients prior to Total or Partial Laryngectomy. Preoperative and/or chemoradiation education and treatment for head and neck cancer patients regarding impact on speech, swallowing, and upper airway. Providing comprehensive treatment for alaryngeal voice restoration including use of electrolarynx, esophageal speech or tracheoesophageal speech, (re)placement of Tracheoesophageal Voice Prosthesis (TEP), speech and swallowing disorders after head and neck cancer. Evaluate and treat the spectrum of voice disorders including vocal cord dysfunction, spasmodic dysphonia, muscle tension dysphonia, vocal cord paralysis or weakness, the multitude of voice complaints related to neurological disorders and others. Voice disorders and dysphagia evaluation/treatment of the general population including laryngo-videostroboscopy assessment, fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) and Modified Barium Swallow Studies (MBSS). Treat both inpatients and outpatients. Treat speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults. Provide education and training to family/caregivers and other professionals. Work as an effective team member of multidisciplinary teams to achieve planned patient-centered goals. Work closely with physicians and audiologists to establish and promote delivery of high-quality individualized treatment plans, including participating in quality initiatives to drive high levels of care. Evaluate and treat patients in accordance with the rules and regulations of the UNLV School of Medicine, the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA), and the State of Nevada, Board of Professional Regulations. Provide goal-directed treatment plans and facilitate the implementation, modification, documentation, and communication of such plans in individuals regardless of race, color, sex, religion, or national origin. Completes any duties and special assignments as required Functions effectively in a Matrix Management environment. Completes any duties and special assignments as requested. EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND CERTIFICATIONS

Minimum of five (5) years of acute and ambulatory care practice experience combined as a Speech-Language Pathologist required Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited school of speech language pathology required Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from American Language Speech & Hearing Assoc. required Completion of a Clinical Fellowship Year from a recognized program required State of Nevada Board of Examination for Audiology and Speech Pathology License required Speech-Language Pathology Areas of Specialization - Completion of competencies for listings in job description Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge and experience working with children from birth to 9 years and willingness to work with this age-group Knowledge and experience working with head and neck cancer patients including laryngectomy patients and voice disorder patients Knowledge and experience with children with Autism and/or other neurodevelopmental disorders Demonstrate knowledge of current best practices in speech-language pathology Be committed to meeting the needs of a diverse population Have a track record of being a team player with a friendly and professional demeanor while also being community minded Be committed to their own learning Adhere to a high level of professional and ethical standards Advanced experience with computer software programs and clinical documentation, including proficiency in trouble-shooting common software or hardware challenges Competency in knowledge and adherence to HIPAA legislation and other patient privacy laws Clinically relevant coursework/seminars in subspecialized areas including Head and Neck cancer patients, Autism, Pediatrics Knowledge and training or practice in areas of aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, cognitive deficits, dysphagia, neurological disorders, cleft palate, and voice disorders Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, etc) Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills Excellent time management skills and be flexible Excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, and still work in a multi-disciplinary team Must be able to multitask and prioritize work in a fast paced environment Must be able to maintain confidentiality Must be able to pay close attention to details PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
