Job Summary

Provide addiction care at Denver Health Hospital as a consulting physician, working alongside a multidisciplinary group of physicians and social workers. Diagnose and treat children and adults, including patients with complex co-occurring medical and psychiatric disorders. Provide expert assessment and management while also teaching medical students, residents and fellows. Opportunity to be involved in scholarly addiction work. Consulting services provided for patients on medical and surgical floors, intensive care units, obstetrics and gynecology unit, pediatric unit, adult psychiatric unit, and adolescent psychiatric unit. The majority of patients will be on an adult medical or surgical service (90%), and 10% will be on a psychiatric unit (adult or adolescent), obstetric or pediatric unit.

Essential Functions :Obtains relevant medical histories, makes appropriate diagnoses, implements, and directs effective addiction treatment. including during high-risk and/or life-threatening conditions including during pregnancy and peri-partum periods. Consults with medical providers in the care of patients with addiction and psychiatric disorders. (70%)Teaches medical students and advanced trainees from other health disciplines including in nationally accredited training programs. (20-%)Scholarly addiction research and/ or Quality Improvement projects (10%)

Education :Doctorate Degree Graduate of an accredited medical school. RequiredWork Experience:Prior experience working with substance use disorder patient populations.

Licenses :MD or DO-Physician - State Medical Board Required andBLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association RequiredBoard Certified in Addiction Medicine or Addiction Psychiatry

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :1. Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques.2. Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.3. Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care.4. Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; express or exchange ideas by verbal communications.5.
