Parents With Dreams is an all-volunteer organization founded to help young custodial parents earn college degrees, trade credentials, or industry certifications to drive positive and long-lasting outcomes for the parent-scholars and their families.Role Overview:

As a member of the Board of Directors, you will play a crucial role in governing Parents With Dreams, ensuring its financial stability, and advancing its mission. Board members are expected to be passionate advocates for the organization's cause and to contribute their time, expertise, and resources to support its growth and impact.Key Responsibilities:1. Governance and Oversight• Participate in developing and approving the organization's strategic plan• Ensure the organization's programs and services align with its mission• Review and approve annual budgets and major financial decisions• Hire, support, and evaluate the Executive Director/CEO2. Financial Stewardship• Monitor the organization's financial health and ensure proper financial controls• Review and understand financial statements and audit reports• Approve the annual budget and major expenditures3. Fundraising and Resource Development• Help us reach our fundraising goal by raising at least $2,500 annually through donations! If the fundraising goal is not met, then you commit to making a personal contribution to reach the $2,500 annual goal.• Actively participate in fundraising activities, including identifying and cultivating potential donors• Support the organization's fundraising events through attendance and ticket sales• Attend all fundraising events4. Advocacy and Community Relations• Serve as an ambassador for the organization in the community• Promote the organization's mission and programs to potential supporters and partners5. Board Development• Participate in board orientation and ongoing training• Assist in identifying and recruiting new board members• Participate in annual board self-assessment6. Attendance and Time Commitment• Attend at least 80% of all board meetings (typically 12 meetings per year)• Temporary Leave of Absence notifications made in writing to the Board President will waive the minimum meeting requirement. Refer to Leave of Absence policy.• Participate in at least one board committee and attend committee meetings as requiredBoard Member Role Description• Provide advance notice if unable to attend a meeting• Come prepared, having reviewed all pre-meeting materials• Total time commitment estimated at 2 hours per month• Increased time commitment may be needed in preparation for Board sponsored events and fundraising event preparation and attendance. Approximately another 10 hours annually.7. Qualifications• Passion for and commitment to the organization's mission• Relevant professional experience or expertise• Strong interpersonal and communication skills• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team• Willingness to leverage personal and professional networks for the benefit of the organization• Significant experience in organized ventures or leadership roles within structured groups. This may include, but is not limited to leadership positions in professional organizations; active involvement in Parent-Teacher Associations (PTA); leadership roles in Sororities or Fraternities; experience organizing community events or initiatives; Board service for other non-profit organizations; leadership in business or entrepreneurial ventures8. Committee Work• Serve on at least one board committee• Attend and actively participate in committee meetings and activities9. Advocacy• Act as an ambassador for the organization in professional and personal networks• Stay informed about the organization's programs and services• Be prepared to speak knowledgeably about the organization to external stakeholders10.
