The Vice President, Finance is a senior member of the financial management team for Optum Corporate Finance, reporting to the Senior Vice President, Finance. This position has overall accountability for leading and directing the consolidation of Optum’s budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning and related analysis functions as well as direct finance support for Optum Corporate shared functions (Human Capital, Enterprise Marketing, Finance & Accounting etc.) and is responsible for ensuring that cost structure is appropriate for a competitive environment. This also includes direct responsibility for operating cost management and reporting as well as the execution of intersegment agreements.
Primary Responsibilities:
Manages a team of 25+ finance professionals who are responsible for forecasting and management of ~$1.5 billion dollar budget
Proactively monitor trends to identify risks and opportunities across key financial metrics and operating model decisions with a focus on optimization
Establish benchmarks and scorecards to assist leadership in managing the fiscal discipline of their functions
Facilitate root cause analysis and solutions identification
Present solutions and timelines to executive teams when large scale change or trade offs are identified
Drive strategic decision making through an in depth understanding of company cost structure, industry trends, market dynamics and internal key indicators
Drive operational improvement and cost containment efforts across functional areas
Ensure volume appropriate cost structures and targets are in place to drive desired business results
Develop strong intra-company relationships by proactively meeting with key leaders within finance and across the business
Represent Optum Corporate Finance in key leadership settings, including presentations to Optum CEO, CFO and Optum Operating Committee
Understand constituent needs/issues and develop actionable reporting tools for various customer groups; including ad hoc analysis
Lead ad-hoc financial initiatives at the request of Optum SVP Finance, CEO/CFO and/or other executives
Approve Optum budget and target transfers
Serve as a catalyst for change - actively involved in the process of organizational change and development, including Operational Optimization
Apply analytical / quantitative approach to problem solving - knows how to obtain and use data
Break down organizational barriers across UnitedHealth Group segments, build alliances, and gain consensus to ensure results are obtained
Engage leadership across Optum to achieve cost containment objectives
Drive business process improvements related to finance processes and financial systems

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent education and experience; MBA preferred
15+ years of progressively responsible financial and operational management experience
Ability to anticipate financial reporting and operational issues, asses their implications, determine their impact and develop and implement appropriate action plans
Multi-divisional, multi-year financial experience, including demonstrated ability to influence in a matrixed environment
Deep working knowledge of financial systems, statement and reports
Advanced knowledge of industry-specific accounting principles and other regulatory requirements, evidenced by an ability to apply that knowledge to both practical and theoretical situations
Results-oriented change agent with demonstrated ability to develop effective cross-functional relationships
Exceptional organizational, problem solving, and inter-personal skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to break work down into process steps; develop schedules and work well within time constraints in a high pace environment
Proven ability to source and select, develop, promote and retain top financial talent
