Overview
The Pharmacist that fills this role, will partner with 4 South Region peers to serve as our Inpatient Pharmacist Leads for all clinical areas. Primary work location will be Ridges Hospital, but some time may be spent at Southdale. Clinical areas for this person will likely include Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Endocrinology, and Dialysis. This person will provide vacation coverage as needed for other Team Leaders. In this position, the individual will be divide time between mentoring/teaching teams, and project-based time, where the individual will focus on numerous projects, tasks, and meetings. This person will precept students, interns and residents and may eventually serve in lead role (such as Program Director/Coordinator, or other) for our Residency Program.
He/She will help investigate medication errors, manage drug utilization/cost savings, coordinate vital drug shortage changes, place IT tickets, and provide oversite of regulatory requirements. Meetings may include both site & system meetings, such as our weekly Pharmacy Operations or Pharmacy Practice, South Region Pharmacy Leadership meetings, and Pharmacy Council and well as specific service line meetings for their areas of coverage.
The position will mainly be days and but will work every 4th weekend in a staff role.
Location
: Predominately Fairview Ridges in Burnsville, MN, but will also have some clinical oversite at Southdale in Edina
Hours
: 80 hours bi-weekly
Schedule
: days, including every 4th weekend, with as needed (rare) coverage/calls in Evenings for special projects/department needs

Responsibilities Job Description
Leads the day-to-day operations of assigned pharmacy and/or clinical department to ensure achievement of organizational vision, mission, and goals.
Provide clinical, formulary and pharmacotherapy expertise and act as a resource to students, staff, and interdisciplinary members of the care team. This may include coordinating student experiential rotation and acting as preceptor.
Provide clinical pharmacy services to all patients in assigned area using Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). This may include dispensing of medication, providing clinical services for patients, monitoring, adjusting patient therapies and documenting changes according to department policies and pharmacy regulations.
Act as resource for pharmaceutical care to patients, partnering with interdisciplinary care team members to ensure the appropriateness of medication order and therapy and the effectiveness, safety, and convenience of the medication therapy.
Ensure commitment to agreed-upon patient care philosophies and standards by assessing the proper use of the practice model and creating or modifying workflow to support it.
Create and maintain an environment for pharmacy professionals to function efficiently with known accountabilities and exemplary performance standards.
Develop, implement, and communicate key metrics and improvement activities to monitor the performance of pharmacy and/or clinical operations.
Partner with human resources and other teams on human capital initiatives that ensure recruitment of high-quality candidates, foster staff engagement, encourage professional development and provide appropriate training and orientation.
Build powerful relationships with all internal groups, external agencies, and other stakeholders to anticipate needs and ensure alignment within a highly matrixed environment.
Ensure contractual obligations are met.
Responsible for timely and accurate analysis and decision making to support pharmacy business performance, operational and financial objectives.
Drive a culture of continuous improvement using lean management tools to support, challenge and evolve processes to achieve system pharmacy goals.
Maintain knowledge, ensures, and facilitates compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.
Maintain proficiency in the skills and theory of the practice of pharmacy by reviewing literature, attending in-services, seminars, and conferences.
Perform other responsibilities as needed/assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education
Pharmacist Degree
Required Experience:
One-year pharmacist experience in complex pharmacy operation, clinical service area or completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency program
Required License/Certification/Registration:
Minnesota Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist License
Minnesota Board of Pharmacy Preceptor License
Preferred Education:
Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency program
Doctor of Pharmacy degree
Preferred Experience:
3+ years of experience in an inpatient setting with advancing leadership responsibility
