Provides a variety of specialized duties which support and serve students who require Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies and Discrete Trial Training (DTT) School and/or Home Programs; assists with functional assessments and the creation of behavior plans; provides parent and teacher training; and performs related work as required.

The Registered Behavior Technician administers ABA, DTT and Social Skills Training to students with Down Syndrome, Mental Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Emotional Disturbance or Multiple Disabilities. Assignments may include working at more than one location and with multiple students. The Registered Behavior Technician will assist with functional procedures, create behavior support plans, and complete therapeutic notes, under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Works with students who require ABA and DTT services.Provides directed learning experiences.Assists with functional assessment proceduresProvides parent and teacher trainingSupports the completion of required Behavior PlansAdministers ABA/DTT strategies to students with Down Syndrome, Mental Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Emotional Disturbance or Multiple Disabilities.Assists certificated staff and instructional assistants when providing ABA/DTT instruction to students.Regularly attends a variety of meetings, clinics and/or training sessions.Provides program input, demonstrate program procedures and follow or implement program recommendations.Performs clerical duties and related work as required.Presents educational materials, lessons, programs and projects to students with varying degrees of impairment.Observes and administers trials.Conducts the collection and interpretation of data.Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.Knowledge and Skills

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Discrete Trial Training (DTT), Social Skills Training(SST), Functional Behavior Analysis and Behavior Support Plan.Appropriate safety precautions and procedures for classroom, home and recreational activities.Use and operation of a word processor, computer and standard office equipment.Data collection methodologies.General needs and behavior of children with various disabilities.The use of strategies with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome,Multiple Disabilities, Emotional Disturbance or Mental Disabilities.Abilities

Interpret and make recommendations based on raw behavioral dataLearn of the general needs and behavior of students with a variety of disabilities.Attend and successfully complete ABA, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Applied Assaultive Training and refresher courses.Assist instructional assistants and certificated staff in the development and reinforcement of ABA/DTT strategies.Demonstrate and instruct instructional assistants through modeling and/or shadowing techniques.Implement behavioral strategies and program modifications in accordance with a student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).Work effectively with parents, teachers, students, other staff and the general public.Reinforce Social Skills Training.Run Social Skills groups.Understand and accurately follow oral and written instructions.Communicate effectively orally and in writing.Drive a carPhysical Abilities

Hearing and speaking to exchange information and to make presentations.Dexterity of hands and fingers for operating equipment, carrying, pushing or lifting classroom equipment and supplies.Bending at the waist; lifting objects weighing up to 40 pounds; reaching over head, above the shoulders or horizontally to store equipment.Seeing to observe students in classroom activities.Moving to classroom or playground environment freely and independently enough to observe children naturally and unobtrusively.Must be able to pass both CPI courses.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and ExperienceHigh School diploma or equivalent and completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher learning or attainment of an Associates Degree in a related field, such as psychology or child development. Two years of directly related experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, Multiple Disabilities, Emotional Disturbance or Mental Disabilities. A minimum of 40 hours of direct instruction in Applied Behavior Analysis.

Licenses and CertificatesValid California driver's license. Crisis Prevention Intervention and Applied Assaultive Training Certificates will be required before start of assignment. Completion of District sponsored two-day Autism training. Valid first aid and CPR certificates. Registered Behavior Technician certification through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.

Working ConditionsWork is performed in classroom, playground and community settings, where safety and health considerations exist from physical effort and potentially dangerous incidents involving combative or aggressive students. The position is subject to driving between sites.
