The Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) will provide IEP-mandated speech services to eligible students. In addition, (s)he will evaluate referred students, write related reports and share evaluation findings at PPT meetings. The SLP will consult with school staff on an as-needed basis.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Conducts speech, language and hearing screenings.Evaluates and identifies communication disorders of the students.Provides diagnostic services when appropriate.Works cooperatively with the principal of the assigned school, specialists assigned to their school, providing direction within the team in planning intervention for referred students to and reviewed by the PPT.Determines diagnoses and recommendations for educational modifications and speech-language interventions.Reports effectively to parents and staff.Develops IEPs and implements IEPs accordingly.Provides direct services with a varied enrollment; i.e. receptive and expressive language, fluency, voice, articulation, aural rehabilitation, oral motor intervention, auditory processing.Provides speech and language services through a collaborative-transdisciplinary model of intervention and across curriculum.Participates in in-service for teachers.Provides consultation services to instructional and support staff.Remains current in the field of speech and language and special education.Provides therapy goals in conjunction with the department's current goals and objectives.Maintains effective contact with community agencies.Demonstrates professional responsibility and concern for student's total environment.Completes written reports and required documentation.Participates in teacher and parent conferences.Participates as a member of a transdisciplinary team.Consults with student assistance teams.Participates in annual review meetings.Plans curricular/instructional modifications.Meets other assigned school responsibilities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
CT certification - Speech & Language Pathologist.Licensure by the State of CT Board of Health.Experience in writing IEP goals/objectivesExperience with the PPT processExperience in working with families from diverse backgroundsSpanish fluency is preferred
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Public school experience at all levels, including preschoolExperience with IEP Direct software
