Job Description

Interventional Radiological Technologists assist physicians and APPs in interventional procedures and provide diagnostic aid by conducting organ and body scans. The technologist is responsible for helping develop and implement systems to assure the smooth and efficient flow of patients for procedures in the Interventional labs. Duties for this position include but are not limited to circulating and scrubbing roles during procedures, patient teaching, assisting with patient care within scope of practice, inventory management and schedule coordination.

Responsibilities

Efficiently and effectively provides procedural support for a variety of patient procedures.Operates imaging system for special procedures.Applies appropriate measures to minimize radiation exposure to self, patients, employees, and others.Responsible for achieving quality assurance measures and requirements.Responsible for maintaining inventory.Successfully participates in continuing education.Performs exams as directed by radiologist to ensure appropriate views of anatomy are taken that will facilitate an accurate diagnosis.Assists radiologist directly, utilizing sterile technique for all invasive procedures.Prepares patient for diagnostic procedures including pulse assessment and sterile field preparation.Participates in assessment and quality of equipment and daily operational supplies with the Manager, Radiology, and makes recommendations accordingly.Maintains adequate level of supplies.Notifies appropriate personnel to ensure proper maintenance of equipment.Remains abreast of current developments by attending related seminars and reviewing current literature.Assists in other areas of Radiology, if needed, if there is no other work in the special procedures section.Conducts patient education and screening and scheduling.Complies with all Radiology Information System and PACS entry requirements for accurate patient, film, supply, tracking monitors.Ensures the safety of patients, visitors, co-workers, and self by using appropriate radiation and bloodborne pathogen precautions.Assists and supports the Radiologic student program, specifically the clinical aspect. Provides supervision and feedback to students as they perform procedures. Reviews images with students on request and provides quarterly evaluations of students to clinical instructions for formal reviews.Attends continuing education programs and completes mandatory training in order to maintain licensure, position specific ongoing competencies and professional growth.Follows hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Education Minimum

Completion of a 2-year degree program in Radiologic Technology

Education Preferred:

None

Work Experience Minimum:

No experience required. All new hires will enter the Career Path at this level

Work Experience Preferred:

Licenses & Certifications Minimum:

Radiology Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Licenses & Certifications Preferred:

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or (BLS) and ACLS certification from American Heart Association or the American Red Cross within six (6) months of hire.
