Job Summary

The RN Pre-op/PACU is a Registered Nurse that provides quality patient care using the nursing process, the medical plan of care, and organizational policies. The RN Pre-op/PACU provides safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the perioperative services for all patient populations. The RN Pre-op/PACU supports the mission, vision, and values of the organization. The RN Pre-op/PACU reports to the Manager of Peri-operative Services.

Pre-operative DutiesManage patients' admission processes to preoperative department in a hospitalAssess the status of patients' health in pre-op and ensure accuracy of identification wristbandEnsure that operative and informed consents are in orderDetermine the surgeon and procedure being carried outTake and record vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedureInitiate IVs and ensure that patients are informed about the procedure and attending medical staffPost-operative Duties

Assess patients' condition after a surgery has been performedEnsure that all vitals are within normal rangeLog all findings in patients' filesAnswer patients' questions and ensure that they are kept comfortableMake sure that all relevant IVs are in checkDevelop individualized care plans based on each individual patient's conditionEnsure that the all nursing activities are carried out in accordance to individual patient care planMonitor patients for condition changes and report any changes to the doctorInitiate patient education programs to ensure that both patients and families are educated on procedures and medicationsDetermine when patients are ready to be moved to their roomsPerform intervention duties in cases of post-operative emergenciesRecord sedation levels and body temperatureManage blood and fluid transfusions and draw specimensEnsure that the post-operative space is clean and sanitizedChange bandages and dress surgical woundsWhat We Offer

Required Skills:

Must be a Registered Nurse with an unrestricted license in the stateMust be a graduate of an accredited school of nursingMust have at least 1-3 years' previous experience in PreOP/PACUPrevious experience in an ambulatory surgical center strongly preferredMust have current BLS, ALS and PALSMust possess a strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patientUnderstanding of aseptic techniques and their implementationAbility to quickly adapt to changing condition of the patient when needed
