Overview
The Physical Therapist is responsible for evaluating pediatric and select adult patients for physical therapy as a result of injury or disease; administering treatment, fabricating or recommending adaptive equipment and splints; documenting evaluation results or patient progress, and providing patient and family education. Demonstrates competence defined (*) in Staff Physical Therapist responsibilities in providing age-appropriate care and services to patients from the age of birth to 21 years, and selected adult patients.**This role is a Homecare role. .Responsibilities
The Physical Therapists supports, communicates, implements and enforces the philosophy, mission, values, standards, policies and procedures of Nationwide Children's Hospital.*Evaluates patients with varied diagnoses to determine developmental and/or functional status using standardized measures or clinical observations; identifies patient?s strengths and deficits; establishes long and short term goals; and develops an individualized treatment plan incorporating patient and family needs.
*Administers therapeutic treatment to patients with functional deficits to provide optimal function and independence; utilizes modalities and other treatment techniques to meet each patient's specific needs and achieve therapy goals; observes progress and/or changes in patient's condition and modifies treatment plan accordingly.*Fabricates, recommends or provides orthotics to maintain functional body joint positions and improve functional mobility. Fits patient and instructs patient and family on use of item.*Educates parents on their child's goals and therapy plan; instructs patients and parents on therapeutic activities to follow while at home; documents instruction; and evaluates ongoing compliance and understanding.*Documents patient's evaluation results, objective status, progress toward goals, treatment plan, and recommendations in compliance with documentation requirements of the hospital and accrediting associations; utilizes appropriate computerized or standardized documentation methods, as applicable to caseload.Communicates patient's status and collaborates with physicians, third-party payers, and relevant healthcare providers.Maintains the administrative functions of individual caseload, including scheduling patients for treatment, entering daily patient charges, and submitting timely documentation to appropriate parties.*Recommends and secures patient referrals to community agencies to ensure patient continues to receive needed and appropriate services after discharge.Conducts formal and informal Physical Therapy educational programs for the hospital staff, students, and community. Delegates to students from accredited programs, licensed physical therapist assistants, and unlicensed personnel, supervising care provided.Adheres to the department productivity standards.Perform Misc. duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education & Certification Requirement:Bachelor of Science in physical therapy or higher; State of Ohio Licensure.Previous physical therapy work experience in a pediatric setting preferred or clinical affiliation in the area of pediatricsCPR certification must be received no later than 60 days post hire or 60 days post expirationLicensure Requirement:State of Ohio PT Licensure, required.
