Provides and interprets evaluations for hearing and balance disorders. The audiologist also performs visual evoked potentials for the outpatient clinical schedule. The audiologist may perform auditory processing evaluations as well as all diagnostic testing with the realm of the scope of practice of Audiology, including but not limited to: VNG/ENG, Auditory evoked Potentials, ECOG, VEMP, Posturography, hearing evaluations, reflex testing, fitting and dispensing of hearing aids with verification methods as well as mapping/programming of cochlear and temporal bone implants. These tests will be performed along with all subsequent reports.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Provides diagnostic evaluations, treatment and interpretation for auditory disorders in both inpatients and outpatients. Performs all modalities of evoked potentials. Provides interpretation of all BAER studies done for hearing purposes. Interprets all balance studies and provides formal report to referring physician. Provides referrals to other allied health professionals as deemed necessary. Provides recommendations regarding need for further testing or treatment as needed. Counsels patients regarding test results, referrals and recommendations. Participates in all staff meetings and conferences concerning Audiology. Assist in the selection of supplies, materials and equipment to be purchased for the Audiology section. Assists in establishing goals, procedures, and services within the section as appropriate. Participates in the development of new programs Conducts in-service training programs for other audiologists and staff members. Supervises audiology doctoral students as necessary. Transport patients to and from department if necessary. Acts as a resource for patients, other medical professionals and other area audiologists for referrals, recommendations and advice on hearing and balance needs. Provides screenings or counseling on hearing screenings of infants as necessary for the Universal Infant Hearing Screening program. This could be weekly or weekend requests as the needs of the department arises. Appropriate recommendations and verification of amplification including temporal bone implanted devices. May be responsible for mapping/programming of cochlear and temporal bone implant devices. Maintain required minimum continuing education units required by certifying organization and/or State licensure. Maintain Basic Life Support Provider certificate with timely renewals. Travel to of rom satellite sites.
