Position Summary:
The WIC Program Nutritionist plays a vital role in providing comprehensive nutrition services to WIC participants, including infants, children, and prenatal and postpartum women. Under the supervision of the Senior Nutritionist, this position focuses on dietary evaluations, nutrition assessments, and education to promote health and well-being within the community.
Key Responsibilities:
Dietary Evaluations: Conduct thorough dietary evaluations for all categories of WIC participants.
Nutrition Assessments: Document nutrition assessments and counseling accurately and completely.
Nutritional Risk Determination: Identify nutritional risk factors based on federal guidelines.
Food Package Prescription: Prescribe appropriate food packages tailored to each participant’s nutritional risk.
Counseling and Education: Provide nutrition and breastfeeding counseling, along with educational resources.
Referral Services: Facilitate referrals to additional services through NeighborHealth and other community agencies as needed.
Bloodwork Procedures: Ensure proper procedures for collecting and assessing bloodwork values are followed.
Training Support: Assist the Senior Nutritionist in training Nutrition Assistant staff to achieve required competencies.
Quality Assurance: Provide ongoing supervision and education for Nutrition Assistants through chart reviews and co-signing for quality assurance as mandated by federal and state standards.
Coordinated Services: Contribute to coordinated prenatal services by participating in and facilitating breastfeeding education modules in Birth Classes at NeighborHealth.
Immunization Project Coordination: Serve as a Co-Coordinator for East Boston WIC’s Immunization Project.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition Education.
At least 1 year experience in nutrition preferred.
Proven leadership skills and decision-making ability.
Sensitivity to the diverse needs of the participant population.
Bicultural/bilingual skills are highly desirable.
Schedule & Pay:
Schedule: Per diem (minimum of 3 shifts per month, including at least 1 Saturday).
Pay: Starting at $21.95, up to $32.93, based on experience.
