Job Summary:

Under general supervision, the Histology Technologist lI, processes histologic and cytological specimens to assure timely and high quality preparation of blocks and slides.Under direct/indirect or general supervision, primary duties include: accession and grossing assistant; processing, embedding, microtomy, staining for H&E and special stains, cover slipping and labeling of tissue specimens arriving in the department through surgery or outside offices; retrieving specimens for re-gross; retrieving slides for pathologists and administrative support staff for send-outs; maintaining and filing finished slides; daily cleaning of processor, H&E stainer, cover slipping hood, grossing station, and overall lab; providing assistance to other departments on requisitions; filling supply requests from in house and outside offices; keeping lead HT informed of current supply levels and needs to maintain proper stock quotas; assisting in frozen suite by cutting specimens and staining slides for immediate diagnosis; assisting in radiology with FNA's and as needed with bone marrows.

Education:

Associate's degree in Science or related field & Completion of a Certified Histology Program.Experience:

Two years of experience as a Certified Histology Technologist.Certification(s):

Certification as a Histology Technologist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent is required at time of application.Or

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Science or related field & Completion of a Certified Histology Program.Certification(s):

Certification as a Histology Technologist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent is required at time of application.Internal Hires:

Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rule or union contract terms.
