Responsibilities of a Speech Language Pathologist:

Prepare engaging exercises and activities to use during speech sessions with patientsProvide counseling and consultations for new patients, their family members and caregiversCreate goals and objectives for patients to work toward and identify areas of progress and challengesOversee speech-language pathologist assistants and support their full-scope understanding of how to manage an officePrepare speech pathology equipment and exam room ensuring proper sterilization and safety procedures are followedReview the patient's file prior to their appointment and have a clear understanding of the challenge to be addressedAttend continuing education courses and work to advance personal knowledge and experience within the fieldQualifications of a Speech Language Pathologist:

Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Therapy and Licensed in the State of TexasProficiency in computer software commonly used for documentation and report preparationMaster's degree in speech therapy is requiredDemonstrated knowledge and adherence to HIPAA legislation and other patient privacy lawsExperience working with sensitive and personal patient records and informationProficient in troubleshooting common software and hardware challenges in relation to the regular use of speech pathology toolsPhysical endurance and the ability to work primarily in a standing positionA friendly and professional demeanor is required when explaining procedures and processes to patientsAccountability and attention to detail is essential when handling and documenting important medical information
