Job Summary:
The JCC Camps at Medford enriches the lives of children by teaching values and life skills in a fun, safe, inclusive, Jewish environment while building confidence, sharing successes, and creating lasting friendships and memories.
Job Responsibilities:
Program innovation, creation, planning, implementation and evaluation
Provide insight and assistance to the Camp Director with the fiscal management of camp
Provide oversight, supervision and evaluation of seasonal camp leadership and programs with a core focus on the following:
Mental, Emotional and Social Health/Care Team
Work closely with Care Team Director for seasonal staffing
Work in partnership with Federation grants team to identify and successfully implement grant opportunities
Disability Inclusion (Open Hearts/Open Doors)
Work in partnership with JCC Inclusion department to oversee the management of Open Hearts/Open Doors applications
Provide supervision of the Open Hearts/Open Doors Director and assist with case manager and advocate hiring and placements
Assist Camp Director & Grants Team with the implementation of Saltzman Grant funding as it relates to Open Hearts/Open Doors
Camper Behavior Management
With seasonal camp leadership, evaluate and implement effective behavior management tools when applicable.
Participate in camper recruitment initiatives:
Identity and attend camp fairs when necessary
Attend all camper recruitment events (i.e: open house, off-season camp programming, parlor meetings, etc.)
Provide camp tours for prospective families
Build, foster and maintain positive relationship with camp families to ensure a positive community image for Camp
Participate in staff recruitment and retention initiatives:
Identify and attend staff/career fairs when necessary
Attend staff interviews
Assist with staff application review and coordination of applications to seasonal leadership
Identify opportunities to grow staff retention and increase overall staff satisfaction
Work with seasonal leadership to assist in program development, staffing and bunking
Attend various conferences and trainings for the purpose of staying current and keeping camp cutting edge.
Assist in the completion of staff evaluations.
Identify and assist with opportunities focused on year-round camp engagement including but not limited to:
Off-season programming (i.e: Fall Festival, Broadway Live, etc.)
Alumni engagement and programming
Fundraising opportunities
Assist with all camp communications including camp family communication and marketing initiatives in coordination with JCC Marketing
Assist Camp Director & Assistant Camp Director on the implementation of special event programming (Color War, Ruach/Spirit Week, Appreciation Week, Israel Week, etc.)
Assist in the implementation of the Shlichim program including interviews and host family coordination
On call responsibilities during the camp season when the Director is unavailable
Represent the JCC Camps at Medford at occasional JCC or Federation wide programming and/or special events (i.e: Open Houses, Fundraisers, etc.)
Required Educations & Experience:
Master’s degree preferred but at minimum bachelors, preferably in the areas of education, social work, psychology, communications, non-profit management, recreation or related field
Previous camp experience preferred including full time or seasonal
Strong background in day or residential camping
Working knowledge of Judaism, Jewish community and Jewish traditions with experiences in both formal and informal Jewish education preferred
