Job Summary
Assists in performing diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular, electrophysiology, and other related procedures. Job Responsibilities
Positions patients and selects exposure factors accurately. Utilizes radiation protection and safety standards. Applies as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) principle to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others. Assists the physician in a variety of imaging procedures. May be required to prepare and administer contrast media and/or medications within accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations. Responsible for setting up and providing equipment and supplies before, during, and after procedures. Assists physicians with patient monitoring during procedures. Documents evaluation results, progress reports, treatment plans, and other data using appropriate formats and systems. Prioritizes multiple important responsibilities related to ensuring patient safety and correct procedure. Calculates hemodynamic or physiologic values and records waveforms for patient records. Assists physician in performing common catheterization interventions including, stent placements, balloon angioplasties, heart valve replacements, and electrophysiology tests. Operates intracardiac or intravascular ultrasound equipment, fluoroscopy equipment, or other imaging systems. Inserts venous and arterial catheters and wires through a needle into the blood vessels and into the heart so that X-rays,
angiograms, and other recordings can be taken to determine the heart's structure and function under the direct supervision of the physician. Performs laboratory tests through catheterization or related approaches to determine the gas level concentration in a patient's blood for the heart or lungs. Provides documents and evaluations of test results. Monitors blood pressure and heart rate using electrocardiogram (ECG) equipment during procedures including coronary angiography, pacemaker implantation, aortic stenosis studies, and patent foramen ovale closures Qualifications
Associate's degree or higher in Science required upon hire OR Associate's degree or higher in related field required upon hire A combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of degree. No experience required RT(R) - Registered as a Radiological Technologist in Radiology required upon hire AND ROC - Radiation Operator Certification in the state of Kentucky required upon hire AND BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 90 days of employment in this position AND ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 90 days of employment in this position Skills and Attributes
Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment. Works under minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Physical Demands
