STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
Promotes and maintains patients' health by providing health care services to the extent to which she/he is licensed and/or certified, under the direction and responsible supervision of the Medical Director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Under the general supervision of the Medical Director, examines patients, takes medical history, records results, and makes preliminary diagnosis of disease, illness, and injury and decides care plan, or follow-up procedures.Assesses patient health by interviewing patients, performing physical examinations, obtaining, updating, and studying medical historiesIdentifies short-term and long-range patient care issues that must be addressed, provide information, and recommend options and course of actionOrders diagnostic tests such as X-rays, electrocardiograms, and blood work, and interprets test resultsPerforms therapeutic procedures, such as immunizations, injections, suturing and wound care, and managing infectionInstructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens and promoting wellness and health maintenanceProvides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient care plans, instructing and counseling patients, and recording progressWorks in triage and makes decisions on patient care needsMaintains outpatient records by documenting patient care servicesRecord statistics, conduct research, and compile reports as deemed necessary by the organizationPerforms referrals to specialists as needed, writes prescriptions for medications and equipment, and performs office procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols, and available equipmentProvides general health education regarding matters such as proper diet, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenanceAssists physician, as required, for emergency treatment and procedures that are more complexInstructs nurses, medical assistants, back office assistants regarding assistance with patient careQualifications
Physicians:
Supervise Medical and PA students during their clinic training.Act as a Supervising Physician for Physician Assistants employed by the Center.Acts as a resource person for decisions, planning, and policies affecting the health of patientsDevelop the health care team by providing information, educational and experiential growth opportunitiesAide medical and executive directors by serving on committees aimed at compliance, quality assurance, management, and performing confidential peer reviews as requestedContribute to team effort by fulfilling on-call duties and hospital hoursMaintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies.Participate in in-service/education regarding Quality ImprovementPerform all other related duties as assigned or requested.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
NP/PA candidates -
Completion of an approved nurse practitioner or physician assistant program, (graduation from one of these programs requires a high school diploma or equivalency)Board Certification or Board eligible in Family PracticeCurrent approval by the Joint Board of Medical Examiners and Board of Nursing to perform medical acts.Must be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in ArizonaMaster of Science in Health Sciences or related field required.Physician candidates :
Completion of a four-year undergraduate4 years Medical School earning a MD or DO degree.1-year rotating Internship2 years residencyBoard Certification or Board eligible in Family PracticeCompletion of annual CME Requirements.
