MDH Potomac Center/SETT, Hagerstown MD

Main Purpose of Job

This Psychiatrist position will be responsible for the evaluation, assessment, and diagnosis of individuals with psychiatric conditions who reside at the SETT and Potomac Center, either on admission or by referral from the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) after admission. This position receives, reviews, organizes and summarizes all information that accompanies the individual. On admission, documents Mental Status Exam and relevant team discussion. Documents admission contact contemporaneously. Completes existing templates to provide comprehensive, succinct overview of individual's life history, analysis of factors resulting in current admission, assessment of need for psychiatric diagnosis, current psychiatric medications, review of previous medication interventions, assessment of medication effectiveness, assessment of side effects, interplay of somatic illness possibly impacting psychiatric stability, review of legal history with consideration of context of illegal behaviors. Provides diagnostic conclusions and generally discusses how psychiatric illness has compromised community success. Provides individual and group active therapy and psychotherapeutic services. Places comprehensive evaluation/assessment on chart within 21 days of initial contact. Participates in discharge planning and provides a discharge summary of care. Provides consultation, advice, and overview of treatment in psychiatry to other Physicians and health care staff. Although most psychiatric care is provided during the day, as an intermediate care facility providing round-the-clock continuous services, the employee must be available for any shift/cycle/after hours call/work site needs per staffing/coverage and Center requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education : Determined by the Maryland State Board of Physicians under the licensing requirements for Physicians.

Experience : As required for certification in Psychiatry by the American Medical Association Specialty Board or other Board approved by the Maryland Board of Physicians.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess supervisory experience as well as experience working with mentally and intellectually challenged populations.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Applicants for this classification must be board certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Medical Specialties or other Board approved by the Maryland Board of Physicians.

2. Applicants for this classification must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of a current Maryland medical license and board certification should be attached to the application.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
