Description:We are looking for a compassionate speech language pathologist to identify students who have a speech and/or language disability; develop and implement a program for improvement and/or correction of speech and/or language disorders of articulation, language, fluency and voice, assist in the RtI Process.

To be successful as a speech language pathologist you should be able to successfully aid students in their personal and academic development. Ultimately, an outstanding speech language pathologist is compassionate and committed to students' well-being.

Essential Job Functions:Ensure safety of studentsTeach and evaluate the students using sound speech/hearing instructional practicesPrepare clear and timely lesson plans for students with speech/hearing disabilitesMaintain accurate, complete and correct records as required on timeProvide guidance and counsel to the speech/hearing students which will promote their welfare and their proper educational developmentParticipate in parent/teacher conferences as appropriateCounsel with colleagues, students and parents relative to speech/hearing studentsMaintain and improve professional competence in the specified areaEstablish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents through effective use of interim reports, report cards and conferencesObserve ethics of the teaching profession; exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability and sound judgmentMonitor accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as requiredAssist the administration in implementing the RtI processCoordinate notification of parents if student is not meeting goals/objectivesTake all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilitiesProvide a therapeutic program for speech, language and children with hearing disabilitiesAssist and guide teachers in observing, describing, identifying and referring students with suspected speech and language handicapsAssess student speech and hearing skillsScreen students to identify speech and language problemsRefer and consult with outside agencies, supervisors, and specialists in related areasProvide in-service education to staff and parents on speech and hearing topicsServe as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech improvementMaintain ongoing records for students receiving speech therapyResponsible for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and suppliesMake referrals for medical or other professional attention necessary for the habilitation of speech or language handicapsFollow procedures for enrolling students in therapyConduct and participate in annual reviews for all students continuing in speech therapyConduct re-evaluations for students continuing in speech therapy as requiredMaintain district policies and procedures as related to speech and language servicesMaintain accurate records for individual students receiving speech and language servicesProvide periodic written reports consistent with the reporting schedule of the district to the parent of the handicapped child regarding the child's progressSchedule time for diagnostic testing and classroom observation; coordination of the program; conferences concerning individual children; staff development activities; scheduling of students for therapyMake contacts with the public with tact and diplomacyMaintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., student educational/medical records and assessments including psychological evaluationsInteract in a positive manner with staff, students and parentsPromote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversationAttend meetings and in-services as requiredOther Duties and Responsibilities:

Make provisions for being available to students and parents for educational-related purposes outside the instructional day if neededComplete required Medicaid documentation for the districtParticipate on building level teams and/or teacher based teams and/or district level "teams"Provide information, support and counseling to parents and familiesReview and revamp checklists, interview questions, observation forms, and progress reports as appropriateServe as a role model for studentsRespond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate mannerPerform other duties as assigned by your Principal, Assistant, or designee

?Qualifications:

Master's degree or equivalent from a four-year college or universityAppropriate State of Ohio certifications/licenseSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of all preschool standards and legal mandatesAbility to work effectively with othersAbility to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writingEffective, active listening skillsOrganizational and problem solving skillsSpecialized skill in evaluation procedures for student academic/behavioral problemsAbility to operate various office equipmentBasic skills in counseling and consultationKnowledge of educational psychologyComputer/word processing skills

Additional Working Conditions:
