Description

The Tulane National Primate Research Center (TNPRC) is seeking applications for the position of veterinarian within the Division of Veterinary Medicine to help meet the needs of the program.

The TNPRC is one of seven National Primate Research Centers in the U.S. The TNPRC is an AAALAC International accredited facility housing approximately 5,000 nonhuman primates (NHP) of six different species. TNPRC's research program is focused on infectious disease with a concentration on the study of AIDS. Other areas of research involve gene therapy, biodefense, enteric disease, NHP behavior and NHP medicine and surgery. Responsibilities of the position include general medical and surgical care of breeding colony and research animals, provision of research support, and training of investigators, laboratory animal medicine residents, veterinary students and technicians. The successful candidate will join a team of veterinarians in the Division of Veterinary Medicine and will be provided opportunities to participate in the conduct of independent or collaborative research.

Qualifications

The candidate must hold a DVM/VMD degree from an AVMA-accredited college of veterinary medicine and be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in one of the 50 states. ACLAM board certification or eligibility is preferred. The candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to interact positively with others with an orientation toward team science, intellectual curiosity, and demonstrated initiative toward continuous improvement.
