Position TitleDirector of Technology Commercialization
Job Description
Job Summary:The Director of Technology Commercialization is responsible for advocating for and assessing intellectual property and inventions, protecting intellectual property, marketing and licensing or otherwise disposing of intellectual property, and coordinating with university partners. These responsibilities include:
Assist employees and students with identifying, developing, and reporting invention disclosuresManage intellectual property protection using external legal counsel, reviews the products, verifies their invoices and authorizes them for paymentServe as Secretary of the TU Intellectual Property CommitteeAssist with developing/drafts university intellectual property policyNegotiate and draft intellectual property license contracts for executionMaintain iEdison reporting as required for federally funded research inventionsSupport the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs in negotiating/reviewing intellectual property terms in research contractsNegotiate with other entities to develop joint invention agreements when inventorship is sharedMaintain knowledge of current federal regulations regarding invention reporting and protectionMaintain intellectual property documentation and maintains patentsAdvise the Vice President for Research and Economic Development on intellectual property and other mattersStreamline and continuously improve the technology transfer function at TUPerform related responsibilities as required or assigned.Required Qualifications
Required qualifications :
Bachelor's degreeStrong knowledge of contracts, licensing, and intellectual property protectionBroad technology backgroundStrong analytical ability to interpret and use complex data, logical and data-driven work style.Ability to multi-task efficiently in a fast-paced environment, drive projects to completion, and act with a sense of urgency.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and external stakeholders with proficiency with Microsoft Office.Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with IP tracking softwareMember of AUTM (previously called the 'Association of University Technology Managers')Juris Doctor degree or advanced STEM degree
