Job Description

Position Summary

This part time in person position requires night time and weekend availability and is based in our production facility in Queens.

The Priority Sub Mailroom insert operator reports to the mailroom foreman on duty. You will be an integral part in the production dept of the NY Times. You will be expected to safely operate insert machinery in compliance with department, safety, OSHA guidelines. You will ensure high quality and efficient production in accordance with the production plan and timeline, through all conditions of startup and shut down for all inserts.

Responsibilities:

You will place inserts by hand holds of 10 lbs or less into the insert machine by hand holds on the feeder or directly into the hopper.

You will have inserts on a pallet that is height adjusted and able to rotate so that the distance between you, as operator, and the product is 3 feet.

You will also develop the ability to clear product on the occasional jam

You may be asked on occasion to remove pallets which requires bending and lifting

You will learn time management skills, the ability to monitor equipment and be part of the production team for the NY Times

You will stack bundles weighing between 10-30 lbs

Basic Qualifications:

Able to work in a time sensitive environment to meet production deadlines

Ability to stand for long periods of time

Ability to bend, twist, kneel and squat in a repetitive manner

Ability to lift a minimum of 10lbs by hand

Ability to follow instructions

Ability to work both alone and with others

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a production and manufacturing environment is a plus

This position is represented by Mailer’s Union #6

The rate of base pay for this role is $16.40 per hour.
