OverviewThe Registered Polysomnographic Technologist works under the direct supervision of the Sleep Supervisor and general direction of the Clinical Coordinator and Medical Director to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic service, patient care and education. Collect, analyze, and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs (physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history) and to determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or Medical Director, and department protocols.

What you will do

Recommends and participates in resource changes that support cost containment and waste reduction.Complies with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues. Responsible for assuring safe practices as referenced in the National Patient Safety Goals, and support safe practices as recommended by the National Quality Forum.Uses RMG standards of customer excellence to anticipate, meet, and exceed the needs of the patient. Demonstrates a "service" attitude, leads by example, and focuses on continuous performance improvement to achieve world class results.Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Reviews history, physician information, medications, procedure request, and study protocol . Performs appropriate physiological calibrations to ensure proper signals and makes adjustments if necessary. Performs routine positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting. Implements appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.).Documents routine observations, including sleep stage and clinical events, changes in procedure and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results. Scores sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines. Scores clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc. ) with center specific protocols.Follows procedural protocols (such as nocturnal polysomnography, multiple sleep latency test, maintenance of wakefulness test, CPAP/BiPAP and oxygen titration, etc. ) to ensure collection of appropriate data. Performs polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free and make adjustments if necessary. Follows "lights out" procedures to establish and document baseline values. Follows "lights on procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collections process.Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations in dealing with co-workers, physicians, patients, patient's families, and the public in a tactful manner as to promote understanding and cooperation.

Program Graduate, Certificate by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (BRPT) (Required)Experience

1 year Polysomnography (Preferred)Licenses and Certifications

Registered Polysomnographic Technician (RPSGT) - Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) (Required)CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required)
