BLS, ACLS, TNCC.Experience: Emergency Department experience required.This position provides direct nursing care to patients utilizing the emergency room, performs technical nursing functions, and upholds the standard of practice of a professional nurse. Essential Functions:Provides direct nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process, performs technical nursing functions, and upholds the standards of practice of a professional nurseUtilizes critical thinking and evidence-based practice to facilitate the nursing process in the provision of patient careAssures compliance with the Iowa Nurse Practice Act and other regulatory standardsPerforms according to the ANA Code of Ethics for NursesConsiders age, growth and development of the patient when planning, teaching and providing careDocuments and maintains data on patient's electronic and paper recordExplains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehensionActs as a patient advocateApplies teaching/learning concepts to patient and family educationObserves patient, record significant conditions and reactions, and notifies Physician of changes in patient's condition and progress or lack of progress towards goals of careResponds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocolParticipates in precepting and mentoring while providing education/orientation to staff, students and othersActively supports and participates in continuous quality improvement effortsActively demonstrates customer service philosophyParticipates in department staff meetings and hospital wide in-service programs as requiredComputer literacy attainableCommunicates and collaborates with interdisciplinary team to facilitate safe, effective and appropriate patient careAssures safe, therapeutic environment for patients, families, visitors and staffParticipates in department staff meetings, hospital wide in-service programs as required and quality improvement effortsServes as a resource and mentor for staffRestocks and assures adequate supplies as they are utilized for patient careWORKING CONDITIONS:Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. Employee frequently is required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Vision must be correctable to view computer screens and read printed information.
