Position Summary

Responsible for the design, implementation and evaluation of individualized Recreational Therapy services for patients with physical, social, emotional and/or cognitive impairments based on evidenced based practice and research. This position functions as part of the interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

1. Patient Care Delivery:

Completes individualized assessments per physician order and develops individualized treatment plans.

Participates in treatment team conferences.

Provides therapeutic interventions in group and individual sessions.

Provides education to patients and families.

Responsible for discharge planning and completion of discharge summaries per policies and procedures.

Identifies/ reports changes in patient care and resolves issues with routine schedule/staffing changes. 2. Patient Care Documentation:

Completes initial assessment, treatment plan, care plan goals, daily session notes, patient care conference notes, education and discharge instructions/ recommendations per RT policies and procedures.

Serves as a resource to improve documentation methods/ system for staff and students. 3. Professional Practice and Development:

Maintains pertinent certifications/licensures.

Responsible for maintaining level IV clinical ladder requirements.

Completes personal goals on annual performance appraisal.

Responsible for maintaining continuing education.

Supervisies interns, practicum students, and volunteers as assigned.

Responsible for meeting productivity standards.

Serves on committees as assigned.

Assists supervisor in their duties and with general operations of the RT program. 4. Preceptor/ Facilitator for training and education of students, RT staff and other disciplines.

Provides education to non-RT and non-hospital staff as it relates to and promotes the field of Recreational Therapy.

Seeks out educational opportunities for specialized skill development in area of interest/ expertise as pertains to specific patient population and provides informal educational inservices with staff. 5. Assists in establishment of program goals and objectives.

Assists in writing/ developing program policies and procedures.

Assists with maintaining and organization of inventory, program supplies and equipment. 6. Supervises RT interns 7. Demonstrates competencies and serves as resource with diagnoses and in at least one area of clinical expertise; resource to staff for RT interventions

Takes lead role with Quality improvement processes.

Acts as resource for safety of environment, staff and patients. 8. Keeps abreast of current trends in field and serves as resource for alternatives to traditional treatment interventions and plan of care based on assessment of patient need.

Serves as resource regarding continuum of care needs and patient advocacy.

Minimum Requirements

BS/ BA and or MS in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreational Therapy.

Maintains State of North Carolina Recreational Therapy licensure (LRT) through the State of NC Licensure Board.

Maintains certification as Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist (CTRS) through National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).

10 or more years of licensure is required (does not apply to BH Allied Health or Medical Group)

BH Allied Health and Medical Group 10 or more years of experience is required.

Demonstrates leadership and advanced knowledge of RT interventions as they pertain to patient population.
