SeaCoast Skin Surgery is an outpatient skin cancer surgery center located in beautiful Wilmington, NC. We are currently seeking a full-time Lead Mohs Histotech who is highly skilled and motivated to assist in a single physician practice that emphasizes high quality healthcare and the outstanding patient experience. PURPOSE:

This position delivers exceptional patient service by providing over-site for the lab staff and by performing duties entailing preparation of tissue specimens for routine and special procedures to be used in the assistance of confirming a diagnosis provided by the pathologist.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintains lab staff scheduleTrains and mentors staffMay assist with receipt of specimens and accessioning paraffin casesMay assist with printing cassettes, slides and slide labels.May assist with filing slides and pulling slides pertaining to prior cases.Perform quality assurance checksVerify slide and block match for each caseCompiles cases and ensures slides are placed with corresponding patient requisition information.Ensures stat cases are seen by pathologist with urgency, as soon as available.Examines and prepares histologic slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination and patient diagnosis.File blocks and slides appropriately.Log cases in the biopsy book.Understands slide stainer, staining cycles and able to load/unload slide stainer.Operates computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate with wax, tissue specimens to be preserved for study by Pathologist.Prepares slides of specimens, using specified stain, to enhance visibility under microscope.Examines slides under microscope to ensure tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements.Submit any outside materials that are needed for review.May perform histochemistry (special stains) and immunohistochemistry (antibody dedection) studies.Manages unexpected lab situations, such as problems with instruments or detecting health problems that may cause unusual test results.Operates and maintains instruments used for tissue processing, paraffin embedding and sectioning of specimens.Performs recuts and additional stains including special and IHC stains, as requested by the Pathologist.Maintain QC/QA records.Maintain documentation as required by CLIA guidelines.Ensures CLIA compliance, including updating CLIA manuals and procedures as needed.Maintains Safety Data Sheets in the labOversee, maintain, and record all necessary documentation for Provider Competencies for providers including proficiency testing, KOH testing, observation of EMR recordings, microscopic observation, and keeping records of medical licensure for all providers. Oversee provider proficiency checklist for any new providers starting at the practice.Monitor inventory levels of supplies and equipment on a regular basis; order supplies for laboratory. Maintain log of supplies as they are ordered.Orders and validates new immunohistochemistry agents used in the labTroubleshoots equipment issues and works with manufacturers and repair personnel to ensure all equipment functions properly. Oversees the installation and setup of new laboratory equipment.Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.Treats staff, physicians, visitors and patients with dignity and respect.Adheres to Code of Conduct and Mission & Value Statement.Participates in special projects as needed, including assisting with pathologists' orders.Benefits of Joining QualDerm Partners

Requirements

Have completed HTL training program and is eligible to take licensing exam.1 year experience in histopathology laboratory.Dermatology practice or office experience a plus.
