Early Childhood Speech Language Pathologist

POSITION GOAL:
Provide speech and language support to at risk preschool students in the classroom through direct engagement with preschooler, to enhance language communication skills in preparation for kindergarten.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide speech language instruction to preschoolers in group settings in the classroom. Actively engage students and enhance opportunity to effectively communicate. Provide direction to GSRP Lead Teacher and Associate Teacher on means to enhance communication skills of preschoolers. Identify and diagnose Speech and Language Impairments. Process referrals from various sources. Provide diagnostic information to teams involved in supporting students needs. Ability to use computers, software and other current technology. Effective written communication skills; including parent/family communications and student data and reports. Effective oral communication and relationships with children, families and other program staff. Demonstrate effective organizational skills. Maintain professional atmosphere and demeanor in classroom, acting at all times as a representative of ISD. Attend and engage in continuous professional development. Implement with fidelity high quality practices (developmentally appropriate, evidence/research based). Demonstrate knowledge of and implement the Early Childhood Standards of Quality for Pre-Kindergarten. Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively as a part of a team, including co-teaching. Facilitate ongoing professional development for ISD team staff. Participate in Child Find/Project Find activities throughout the year including summer months. Demonstrate knowledge and expertise of child development, curriculum, child assessment and screening tools, adult learning styles, cultural diversity, and quality improvement including High Quality Curriculum, Program Quality Assessment (PQA) and Conscious Discipline. Provide effective mentor-coaching and instructional improvement strategies for teaching teams. Foster understanding and support classroom implementation of universal supports for all children. Engage in activities with children at their physical level. Ability to work and engage in classroom environment. Develop and work in collaboration toward achievement of performance objectives for each student, with a system for data collection and evaluation for these objectives. Maintain appropriate records. Support and foster family's involvement in community activities as appropriate. Demonstrate ability to instruct students individually in a variety of settings, based on knowledge of child growth and development and using multi-sensory techniques. Collaborate in the analysis of student behavior, participate in the development and implementation of behavior plans as needed based on Conscious Discipline framework. Supervise assigned student teachers and interns. Create an overall supportive, nurturing, strength based atmosphere. Maintain student confidentiality. Perform other duties as assigned by the St. Joseph County ISD Administration.
This position includes a three year sign on bonus:
$2,500: Year 1
$2,000: Year 2
$1,500: Year 3
