PRIMARY ROLE
The role of the Safety Manager is to support the company core values with an emphasis on the protection of people, property and the environment. The position has the responsibility for providing leadership and implementation of the safety, health and environmental program both inside and outside the company.
The ideal candidate will be a leader who builds and maintains relationships that motivate, guide, and reinforce the performance of others towards accomplishing established goals; seeks, shares, and adopts best practices and embraces change introduced by others; demonstrates the ability to maintain strong values and compassion toward fellow employees through words, actions, and by example.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Safety Manager will provide complete EHS services for Joseph J. Albanese and be responsible for providing for the safe planning, project start up, construction building phases, and identification of EHS program improvements in an effort to ensure world class safety performance.
Responsible for understanding government, company, and general contractor EHS requirements. Responsible that all EHS requirements are met and negotiate any discrepancies to resolution. Ability to provide coaching/mentoring to operations personnel, project management, general contractors, and subcontractors on the principles of creating an injury-free culture on all projects. Provides assistance to the operations team in the development and successful execution of safe working plans. Responsible for conducting general training to project personnel on EHS subjects and provide techniques for mitigating hazards to Joseph J. Albanese employees during all aspects of demolition and construction. Review of subcontractor safety programs to ensure alignment with corporate programs, policies and procedures is required. Track subcontractor safety performance and work with the project team to effectively manage poor performance. Will also support cross-functional EHS teams, taskforces, safety committees, and special projects as needed. SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY
Knowledge in the areas of incident investigation, root cause analysis, implementation of corrective actions, and safety metric trending, are all requirements for this position. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Strong proficiency in the Microsoft suite of programs including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel is required. The ability to develop training curriculum, EHS presentations, policies, programs, and procedures is required. Experience in teaching safety training programs is required. Must possess the ability to negotiate and influence a variety of groups. Self-motivation and multi-tasking abilities are skills necessary for success. The ability to balance strategic and tactical efforts within the organization is required. Must be able to complete key deliverables on multiple simultaneous assignments. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
BA/BS degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related discipline is preferred. Professional certification recognized by the Board of Certified Safety Professional (preferred CSP, ASP, and CHST). OSHA 30 certified. 5-7 years of professional safety experience is required. Two years professional safety experience in the construction industry with an emphasis in concrete formwork, general engineering, paving, concrete placement, reinforcing steel or public works is preferred. Knowledge of Cal/OSHA construction and general industry regulations is required. Management or supervisory experience or a senior staff position is desired. Eligibility to drive company vehicle per company insurance policy required.
