Job Summary:The Controller provides leadership and oversight to general accounting, financial reporting & compliance, restricted funds stewardship & reporting, payroll, procurement and accounts payable.
Job Description:
The Controller directly reports to the Senior Associate Vice President for Finance and leads a team which includes the Senior Associate Controller, Director of Payroll and the Director of Business Operations in developing and maintaining a strong financial internal control environment and collaborative working relationships with leadership and various units across the College.
This is primarily an in-person position, with some flexibility for hybrid work as approved by your supervisor.
Primary Responsibilities:Oversees and directs the development of financial policies and procedures governing accounting and fiscal transactions at the College to ensure compliance with the College's policies & procedures, U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, industry best practices and the appropriate stewardship of funds.Provides leadership to and actively participates in creating, establishing, and maintaining a strong internal control framework necessary to mitigate risk, ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations and protect the assets of the College.Leads efforts for continuous improvements to streamline financial processes and procedures to increase efficiencies, reduce administrative burden and person hours needed to complete tasks, and provide excellent client service.Serves as a senior advisor to the Senior Associate Vice President for Finance on accounting, financial reporting, and tax compliance matters and serves as the main liaison for external audits and reviews including the annual financial statements, OMB audits, employee benefit plans and other regulatory audits. Coordinates the fiscal year end close and supervises the preparation of the College's annual audited financial statements, OMG audits, I.R.S. Form 990 and other regulatory reporting.Directly supervises and maintains quality control of the following areas: Accounts Payable/Procurement, General Ledger, Financial Reporting & Compliance and Payroll functions.Provides support in staffing the College's Committee on Audit and Compliance and other support for the Board of Trustees.Functions as the College's day-to-day administrative partner with the College's Outsourced Chief Investment Offices.Promotes a culture of high performance and develops staff using supportive, collaborative, and data-driven approaches.Actively participates in the selection, hiring, training, and evaluation of staff in collaboration with the Office of Human Resources. Facilitates and directs the process of goal setting for all direct reports, conducts regular meetings to monitor workflow, and offers feedback and guidance to support the professional development of direct reports.Represents the Senior Associate Vice President for Finance as needed and assigned on a wide range of financial matters, such as leading or participating in special projects, implementing strategic initiatives, and serving on College committees.Provides strategic communication on financial and risk matters with various campus constituents including faculty, administration, and board members, where applicable.Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:
Ten full years of experience working in a management capacity in Accounting/FinanceBachelor's degree and active C.P.A license requiredHigher education accounting experience preferredDemonstrated ability to think and plan strategically as well as provide a collaborative management styleExtensive experience with the compilation, review and audits of U.S. GAAP, OMB and other financial statements, best practices for procurement and payroll operations;Excellent computer skills, including the development of complex spreadsheets and relational databases;Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of faculty and staff;Ability to set priorities and to manage multiple projects and deadlines;A commitment to a customer service, data-driven approach to decision-making and problem-solving;A willingness to function collaboratively as part of the Finance Division on activities and projects which further the Division's goals;Knowledge of best practices and criteria for effective compliance;Exceptional work ethic, integrity and ability to work autonomously while effectively managing expectations;Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and analysis;Strong interpersonal, communication, and organization skills;Robust project management and problem-solving skills; andStrong working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, etc.)Priority is given to candidates who have earned a certified public accounting or certified management accounting certification or an advanced degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.

Salary Range:
$160,000 - $180,000 annually
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
